Non Responsive Accelerator Dealer ????
Non Responsive Accelerator Dealer ????
about got t boned pulling out of my drive way yesterday when a 16 wheeler was bearing down on me and my accelerator did not respond when i tried to accelerate myself out of being a semi target!
have been having this problem for a couple weeks (off and on) , and up until yesterday i have been able to release and let the accelerator come back up and then accelerate and go. yesterday after i got off on the shoulder and changed my depends, i had to shut the truck off and after i restarted it it worked fine.
i took it in for repair today and of course as is always the way, the dealer could not get it to do it, the computer did not show anything so they were at a loss and unable to address the problem.
if you guys could offer some input to this problem ,i will print this off and take it back to the dealer

me too. i suggested it to the dealer and he ask me "how do I diagnose it? " he put the computer on it and it did not give him any codes.
thats why i put this string on the forum in hopes i could get "info" to take to him.

I wish I had a better answer for you, but if I was the mechanic on that job, I would replace it just on the symptoms you described. Just because the computer has not set a code, it doesn't mean it's good.
If it is like other similar sensors, he should be able to hook a ohm meter to it and read a specified resistance at closed throttle and a another specified resistance at WOT. There also should be a nice smooth sweep in between from one number to the other with no "hitches" or "jumpiness".
Hopefully someone else may have another test that could be used. Intermittant problems are the worst. (I don't have to tell YOU that!)

herb, the dealer can put a data recorder that is called a co-pilot on your truck. you drive it and when it happens you press a button and it freezes the data. so when your problem occurs i would press the pedal down and hit the button on the co-pilot. if it shows closed throttle then they will know that there is a problem. all DC dealers have that tool.

this is the info i was hoping for. i will print this fourum thread and take to dealer probably Fri. will let you guys know what happens. I use Classic Chrysler dealership in Hastings Mi.
Good bunch of folks there, seems they get as frustrated as their clientel sometimes because of the restraints they have imposed on them.

herb a lot of dealers dont take the customers problems seriously. i am sure that your dealer can help you. just tell them how serious you feel your problem is. is your truck still in warranty? if so there are provisions that will pay the dealer for setting the co-pilot up and running the tests. no doubt DC will be very cheap on paying the dealer however the system diagnostics were designed for customer satisfaction. let me know how it works out.---pete
Herb, I am going to go with the APPS as being the problem as you have decribed the same things my truck was doing not to long ago. No codes would show up on the speedo but when the computer was plugged in sure enough it came up with a 121 which had to do with the APPS not agreeing with the computer when throttle was less than 10 or 15%.
Replaced the APPS and she has been fine ever since. The dealer should be able to do an ohms test of the APPS to confirm this. I know the tranny shop can plug there hand held computer into the truck and push on the throttle to see what the voltage is.

i chose 5 or 6 theads off the 10 pages of threads pertaining to apps problems on this forum and hand delivered to my dealership today so he could see that these things are indeed a problem. as i said before my service tech said he had never heard of this problem is it unique to the deisel trucks?
my dealer does not service a lot of deisel trucks but they always have gassers in the shop.
he was reading them when i left

I just replaced my APPS last week and what a differance it has made. On my truck the biggest differance has been in the way the cruise control acts. Before the cruise would surge back and forth almost never staying on one set speed. Now I can set the cruise and it will stay anywhere I put it with out climing or slowing down a bit. My truck is out of warranty so I just paid for the part out of my own pocket but oh what a differance it has made.
One thing you may want to suggest they do is take the cruise and throttle cables off the sensor and see how smooth the action is. Mine had a noticible rough spot in it.
One other thing that might help you some is DC does not refer to the part as an APPS or TPS, in DC's mind it's the Bell Crank Assimble (spelling).
I paid just a little over $345 for mine and that's will my prefered customer discount.

before i took this truck to the dealer the first of the week this thing was giving me accelerator problems daily. from the time i picked it up until i took a handfull of threads i had printed off this forum to the dealer it had not done it once, and i told the dealer that ,thinking perhaps they had cleaned the connections or?? when they had it in , they said they had done nothing.
you guessed it yet? i left the dealership --got about two blocks from there and boom, accelerator quit working again. let off it redepressed and it was fine and hasn't repeated itself again. yet.
