No power stearing when cold

My truck has been doing this for awhile now but it keeps happening more often. It stears fine down the road but at low seeds in a tight spot like a parking lot or driveway its like the pump stops working and I have to use both hands to turn the wheel. It also only happens when the temp is below 25*. Is my pump or gear box going out? Or is the oil too thick? Any suggestions would help.

Siphon off what you can of the old fluid and replace with a good synthetic. It will help so much.

You've got water in your steering fluid.

Just siphon it out thru the filler with a turkey baster or equivalent. Run the truck for a little bit turning the wheels lock to lock and do it again.

I've gotten into the habit of doing this at every second oil change oil change and i haven't had any problems for years even at -30 or more temps.

I use Royal Purple synthetic fluid. I found it cheap and bought a couple of cases of it. A whole bunch cheaper than a pump in my mind.

Jeff,
I just bought a couple quarts of Royal Purple synthetic PS fluid at the Base exchange for $9.00 a quart. I'm assuming you found it cheaper. Where!?

Thanks
