serious stearing slop
serious stearing slop
thinking about buying a truck neer me. price is really good. been bombed with all the good parts
but it has bad! stearing slop. like you have to move the stearing wheel back and forth like a half a turn just to keep it on the road
feals like a 40 year old chevy
guy said he replaces most of the joints on the stearing a year ago and it dident help. hes trying to tell me that the frame is so week the box its flexing that much
I refuse to belive that. if it was so,im shure I would have heard about it from one of my freinds.
is thier a known problem? does the frame really flex?

What are we working on? 2wd or 4wd? With the help of a buddy (have him turn the wheel back and forth) start from the rag joint at the steering box, then to steering box, pitman arm, drag link joints, tie rod ends, upper and lower ball joints. There is also a panhard bar on a 4wd from the frame to the front axle, check it for play.
Look for play in any of these joints, also look closely at the box itself. When the box gets a lot of miles on it they become loose. There is an adjustment for that. Remember that a small amount of slack in 2 or 3 joints will add up a large amount of movement.

its 4x4. yea its got about 200K on it.
he said he replaced the panhard bar about 6 months ago. and it dident help. of corse he is probly just trying to sell his truck and hasent replaced any of it.
all right I will just go it in figuring replacing about 3/4 of the stearing components.

thank you for that. I was begining to belive this guy was lieing to me about the frame flexing. now that I see he is not lieing it makes me feal much better. I still belive is has some joints loose.but thiey are a quick fix.
ok if it was the frame flexing it would of broke by now, so he's blowin smoke up ya'r A$$ on that'n
id say it's the steerin box, mine has some slop in and that where it's at, ya can get a rebuilt one for around $250, im just spendin all my mod money on other stuff
