No 2nd Gear... Temporarily?
Intermittent Loss of 2nd gear!?!
Hello All,
So I'm driving to work the other day... I stop at a stop sign... and when I start off again 2nd gear is like being in neutral.
Once the truck slowed down enough it would drop back down into 1st. If I pushed it hard in first and then let off it would eventually find 3rd. Once I was in 3rd it worked normally.
I turned into a side street... tried starting and stopping a few times... same thing: no 2nd. Shut the truck down and re-started, still no second.
I had to get to work so I decided to risk driving the last 2 kms. I was not looking forward to leaving the next red light (long uphill grade) but to my surprise the trans shifted just fine. On the way home from work it shifted perfectly.
So I haven't driven my truck for the past couple of days (lots of motorcycling in the rain) because I haven't had time to look at it.
Any ideas? Has this happened to anyone else?
I'm hoping it was just a solenoid sticking or something like that!?!?!
Thanks!

From: North Carolina or Kentucky. Take your pick
Do a tranny service and look at KD (front band) band adjustment. Suspect you will find lever has over 5/8 inch clearance. After adjustment, if the adjusting screw has no threads outside the jamb nut, the band is worn out. Continued driving will only increase the cost of repairs. Some very expensive parts start shedding metal. JMHO
hey will a band out of adjustment cause my problem where my truck sticks on first gear 98% of the time? because i believe mine may be out of adjustment, I remember the lever arm moving morethan 5/8 of an inch, I replaced the solonoids(sp) a few weeks ago and it still does the same thing, Thats when I noticed the lever play
