Newby questions

Well I just bought a 99 quad cab, 5sp 4x4 2500. I was reading this board a couple days before I actually bought it and found some great info! One of the threads was just perfect timing as the truck had a check engine light on when I test drove it. When I picked it up on friday the tach quit working and lost power and the light came on again, took it back to the dealer and told them the crank positioning sensor was most likely bad (from reading that thread that someone else was having the same problem). Sure enough the code came up with that problem and they are going to change it on monday.

So now I have this thing and would like some added HP and torque for towing my 5th wheel, not much but some. A local "cummins genius" told me he could get 700 something HP out of that engine, I asked him ok but what about the rest of the drivetrain, will it handle it? After not receiving much of a answer I assumed no.

I have read about the edge EZ and some others a little but am not sure if that is the way to go. I have been reading about differnt injectors, exhaust, chips and everything else but not sure what the best route is. I DO NOT want something I have to work on constantly or dump huge sums of money in on a regular basis. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Also one more thing, how well do the 5 speeds hold up?
Thanks
Re:Newby questions

Go with an edge, its within driveline capabilities easy to install and remove adss a very noticeable power increase and a bit better fuel mileage. I installed one not too long ago and am very impressed with it, after an EZ you go with injectors which is my plan.

Re:Newby questions

You can see below what I have done and I'm really happy. It can do just about anything I need it to do. It's not crazy HP but it will shock new riders just how fast a big truck can be. The next item I would like to get is DDII's injectors but I've been told that the clutch wont hold that much power so first I'm saving for a clutch. Then I'll be in the market for that added horse power. Hope you enjoy your truck.

Re:Newby questions

Thanks for the info, I was looking at bull dog or some such thing as I can get them locally but will look into the EZ.

Wow there is alot of info on these, one thing I am not clear on is the injectors, I read posts that say they went with DD2 or 3?????? What does that mean and I read some about 275 or 285? I have owned older chevy (6.2 and 6.5T) for several years but actually doing something besides driving a diesel is new to me.

I love the sounds of the opened up exhuast on the cummins, how much trouble is it to do it and how much does it raise the sound in the cab?

Thanks for the help.
Re:Newby questions

In the cab with the windows up it is noticably louder, but not a real lot. I think you can get a muffler delete pipe out of genos for 20-30 bucks. Pretty simple take muffler out put pipe in : As for injectors they are just hp incresses a DD2 has more hp than a DD1, a DD3 has more hp over a DD2. the 275s are the RV275, which is out of the 275 horse rv motor.
Heath

nk7j,

Protect your truck by starting with either gauges and then exhaust, followed by an EZ and then injectors, you'll really love it then. Call us if we can answer any questions for you.
Mark @ DPPI
Re:Newby questions

I put a Diablo Sport "Power Puck" in my truck and I love it. It did what I wanted and realy help out on my pulling. It add a 65 hp and 190 torque. about $500 depending on were you go.
