New VP at 89,500, now 99,900, PUMP DEAD!!!

I had my VP44 replaced 2 yrs ago to the day, and the truck lost power on me about 10days ago, so I took it in, and the lift pump actually tested ok, but I had a FASS System installed anyhow to avoid the LP problems, but the VP44 is DEAD!!! With only 10,300 miles on the pump, it died again. Chrysler will not provide any assistance, so I am losing about $2000 over this. I AM @!$#^@&$#@&%@!!!!!!

you can buy the pump for $1050 and put it on your self in 3 hours. It's perty straight forward on the install. Mine did the same thing but it was one your to the day.

Ok... First off you mention having the fuel pressure tested... So your saying that you have no fuel pressure gauge in the truck? If not that would of been on of my first BOMB's... I also don't see it in your signature...

You can get a good reman for less that $1050 if you look a little bit.

A set of guages is coming, I just need to wait until after the first of the year at this rate, new FASS and new IP will set me back just a bit. Plus, I hear that if you have a FASS you "don't really need a fuel pressure guage"???? Not for sure, but at guage tree will show up after the first of the year, anyhow.

I really know very little about these trucks, except when it runs, it runs like a scalded cat, and it tows like a "*****" being chased by the 5-0. I've run over 100mph towing 10k(pounds) plus, and with around 35k(miles) of towing done with it, I cannot complain too much about the performance when it runs well.

Any 2nd generation (with a VP44) truck NEEDS a FUEL PRESSSURE gauge no matter what pump you run... (FASS, RASP, Carter, Holley, OEM, etc)

Don't take a chances on your VP44... As your finding out it can get expensive!

on the ? which gages are best???? well only thing i can tell you is 99% of all race cars/trucks/other vehicles have autometers. but with that said there are alot of quality gages on the market i basicly depends on your personal preferance.

Have you ever driven out west in South Dakota or Wyoming???

WELL, on a positive note......
After arguing with Customer service reps @ Chrysler, and filing a BBB complaint, I am expecting to recieve a check for the whole bill for the VP-44 I had replaced back in Oct. 2004 because they have been fond to be unreliable. But I opted out of the Hot Rod Pump for an OEM alike Bosch for about $1050, so I'll have money in hand for the repair soon.

You may just be a victim of bad luck, but this failure is just another in a long list which demonstrates that FUEL PRESSURE HAS VERY LITTLE OR NOTHING TO DO WITH VP FAILURES. Still the myth lives on, and improper advice is given.

Cummins' decision to locate the lift pump on the engine block, and power it straight from the ECM, is flawed. Thoroughly check out your engine electrical system, and get a relocated lift pump, powered from a seperate power source.

For a long time I've often thought that electrical problems may be responsible
for the large amount of LP failure, as the previous poster indicated. I also think debris passing through the lift pump, because its on the wrong side of the filter, is also a culprit.

I guess some of us are just lucky. It would be interesting to find out which parts of the country had the largest failure rate with the LP's and VP's. I'm sure Dodge has that info and won't share it.

My last LP went 95,000 miles. The current one has 67,000 miles on it. Pressure is still good. VP is original with 161,000 on it. Truck is still in the stock configuration with the exception of a K & N and Exhaust Brake.
