New pump no fix!!

I was driving my 02 with the cruise control on. I pushed the accelerator button to bump up the speed a bit and my truck hick-upped. Not thinking nothing of it. I looked in my mirror noticing major blue smoke boiling out of my pipe. When I shut the truck off when I found an exit off the interstate it wouldn't fire back up. I had it towed to a dodge dealership to get it checked out. Hooked truck to the computer and no codes were detected. The told me it was the injector pump. So they wanted 2700 for the pump and putting it in. I called a shop at home and got it for 1400. My question is the new pump didn't fix my problem. My deisel mechanic is thinking the timing is messed up. Could the cruiuse control throw the timing off?

Mine did the something close to that when my IP died. Got me thinking about what it could be..... Can you turn the engine over with a breaker bar? Will it crank? Does the apps have any voltage?

Do you a a F.P guage ?? and or can you hear it run ??
Lets check the the simple things 1 st ... If it was running I will assume the internals are ok ?
Will the starter crank it over ?
DO you know the pump you bought is OK ??

I have a BD lift pump installed. With isspro fuel pressure guage. It has fuel pressure. And it cranks but it won't turn over. Just pours blue smoke out of exhaust.

I talked with a guy I work with he said that his cruise control caused his timing chain to go out in a car he used to have.

""And it cranks but it won't turn over. Just pours blue smoke out of exhaust.""

Can I assume you mean it: It cranks, it turns through, It won't start, It is blowing blue smoke. If that is correct? I would assume a sensor is out. It could be cam sensor, map sensor, apps sensor, ect. There should be a code in PCM Do the ign switch on, off, on, off, and on. Read codes in odometer.

I'm sorry, it is very doubtful the cruise control caused his timing chain to go out, or your issue for that part.

sounds like it would be a crank or cam sensor because it dont know when to dump the fuel at the right time but timing plate in the pump.... hmm i am going with dozer on this on.

Now there's someone who has a real grasp of things mechanical.

Just because you can hear the lift pump run does not mean it is pumping. My bud's '99 would run the pump and not pump even a single drop.

sometimes it takes a new pump quite a bit of cranking to bleed out the air, especially if the LP died and its NOT priming the IP, what pressure do you have? and did you bleed the IP right at the banjo fitting? next did you crack the injector lines(at least any 2 of the first three) prior to cranking the engine, otherwise it will never start

as for the cruise messing up the timing or timing chain, that like saying your headlights dont work because your low on washer fluid!!! I would STOP taking the advice from your friend at work, because he does not have a freaking clue. BTW your timing is computer controlled and your engine does not have a timing chain

If you are getting blue smoke on crank...I assume you are getting fuel...Buy every time I assume something...
So, can you confirm F.P.?
Next as a side pt you do not have a timing chain so thats not a problem.
crack the Injectors to see the fuel ( at side of block ) there.
Once all that is done.
let us know.

Got callfrom my mechanic. He said the only thing that was wrong with it was my no.1 injector went out. What sucks is my old pump was probably still good and the **** dealership had me buying a pump when it was only an injector. Had the new pump put in so i have to buy it. And the old pump has a core charge of 600.

sounds fishy to me one bad injector will not cause your truck not to start! did your mechanic pop test your injectors to find the bad one? I think have your old pump bench tested to confirm if it was good or not, not sure what it cost though, IIRC around here it is around 200$, No matter as likely down the road you would have needed a VP any way, at least now you know what you have
