Question New LP, cruising pressure lower?

I put a new lift pump on last weekend. My origional one would idle at 13, cruise at 10-11, but I could pull it down to 4 or 5 at WOT. My boss bought two new LP's and he gave me one, so I figured why not install it. Well, it idles at 13, cruise at 9-10, but it won't drop past 8 WOT. Will it hurt my Inj. Pump to cruise at 9-10 psi? I belive I had read somewhere that it should be 11-12psi. at cruise.

New one might not be quite right.

Couple of folks have gotten bad ones right out of the box.

New one shouldn't drop below 11-12 cruising, unless you have huge injectors, or a fueling box.
(Like a Comp, EZ shouldn't pull it that low)

I got something simular...

Starter Bump.........15.0 - 15.5
Idle........................13.0 - 14.0
Cruise @ 65 MPH...10.0 - 12.5
WOT...................... 7.0 - 8.0

The bad part is it still passes the volume test... I really don't like the lower pressure on my VP44.

When I bump the starter, it'll shoot to 13, then slowly go to 15. I only see 12 cruising when I'm going downhill. I'm going to bite the bullet and get another LP, this time with some high-flow banjo bolts. The first time I started the truck after the install, it went to 15. I drove it around 10 minutes, and it would only go to 14. The next day till now (4 days) it'll only go to 13 or 13.5 at idle. I don't like the low cruising pressure either.

I know of one VP44 with over 140k miles on it, still going strong, whiich was run several thousand miles with a DEAD lift pump. When we measured the fuel pressure, it was -3 to -5 lbs at idle. This was at 80k miles, running a Comp and injectors. The only reason we even bothered measured it was because the truck was acting as if it was starving for fuel, which of course it was.

VP44s fail for lots of other reasons besides lack of fuel pressure. Internal rust and fried electronics are two that come to mind right now. 5 to 8 lbs fuel pressure at WOT is plenty im my opinion.

Instead of goin bigger high flow banjos, get ahold of Eric at Vulcan welding and get one of his relocation kits,,,comes with fittings for the VP, FF, and LP....extended wiring harness, to move the LP down to the frame, and bracket, and hose and clamps. Great kits...gets that LP off that hot engine...plus makes it a pusher instead of a puller.... ive got pics of install if ya want them email me at blown468@bresnan.net

I already ordered the pump and banjo's last night. That kit doesn't sound bad though, how much does it cost? I'm still under warranty too, and if anything major dies, I don't want anything majorly different from stock on there. Lift pump I can change myself in an hour, and me buying it and installing it saves me more money than taking it to my dealership and waiting while they do it. What I'm wanting to try is the FASS II. Seems that it is too early to see if it's going to be worth the money or not. I've heard good and bad about it, and some people seem to be having problems.

put a ANOTHER NEW lp on tonight. With it and some high-flow banjo's, my idle is at 15.5, cruise at 13, and wot is at 10. I can't believe I got a bad lp right out of the box. makes ya wonder how many other people got one too and didn't have a fuel pressure gauge to watch it. Makes me like the FASS even more, but not $500 more.

don't need the FASS. $120 gets you great fp, as per CapNRam's suggestion. not much higher than what you got now, 2psi @ WOT. Prolly isn't worth it for you to toss the high-flow banjo's aside.

After the mods you see in my gallery, OEM LP is 14 @ idle, 13 out to 75 mph cruise, 10.8 WOT. I have 8K on this LP and I expect the off engine mounting will make a big differance in longevity of the LP.

I have 1 of those 5 PSI lights and it came on this weekend so i changed my fuel filter and then my LP and still the light is on. Used a gauge to test pressure on the fuel filter is 5 PSI. Kind of a rip cause i had to cut my fuel lines and electrical connectors to get this new Carter pump on. Is there a possibility that my fuel tank is restricting pressure?

Open the drain **** on your fuel filter with a extension tube off it in to a jar, bump your starter and quickly see how fast the fuel comes out of the drain. You should see a strong stream fill the jar. Even a weak pump should give you a good unrestricted flow provided your tank screen is not pluged up.

I measured 5 pounds with a universal gauge that my mechanic friend had so it will come out of there at 5 pounds. I'm gonna bypass my tank at that quick connect behind the filter and see how that goes. If no change I can get a FASS pump for 600 can dols to bypass all that crap that i just bought for no reason.

Probably 8 or 9 hundred. This is just for the pump. No filters or seperators, that is another 250 bucks. Any idea where to get one shipped for cheaper?
