Need to replace front coil springs.

Hi All , I need to replace my front coil springs on my 02' I have searched around and no one carries them other than Dodge and I refuse to pay them 320.00 each. I have one parts supplier that can get them from Rockwell Spring Co. The only problem is the wheelbase. They make them for 135" and 140" wheel base and I believe mine is 138.7" is what the shop manual and Dodge are saying. So is there a problem with going to the 140" wheel base springs???

Also one more question. I developed a pretty bad oil leak coming from the front of my engine. It seems to be coming from the metal gear cover. Is this a common problem??? Just got to remove the cover and replace gasket I assume.

Your help is always appreciated.

If you are wanting to replace just the coils, I don't see why the wheel base matters? The only thing is you would have to make sure is the diameter of the coil is the same, so how it sits on the axle and into the shock tower.

For the oil leak, there is no gasket for your timing cover, just RTV gasket stuff. Pull the fan, blow-by bottle, etc etc and then pull the cover. Clean and re-assemble. Make sure you get a new front seal though where it rides on the crank

in the past talking to topguncustomz.com they had factory to 6" I know the price was about 275 for the 6" when I did talk to them. contact them and see if he could do it. I would think his would be cheaper than the factory$ good luck. also good time to repair the cover and check to see if you have the updated cover that blocks the KDP also. I know my 02 had the updated cover.

Check ebay for your coil springs. There are a couple sellers that have 2nd gen 4x4 CTD springs for way way cheaper than the dealer will charge. I believe all the 2500/3500 4x4 springs are interchangeable, some may have slightly more capacity than others though.

Thanks Guys, I can get new springs from Rockwell spring for 145.00 set including taxes. So they are priced right. I was thinking that also that wheelbase should really have no bearing other than GVW I would think is more important. mine is 8800GVW the coils are rated for 8800 so I am going to order them.

As far as my gear cover it's the new version as mine is a 2002 HO series which I believe at that point they fixed that KDP problem. I think the seal has gotten brittle and started leaking. So you recomment changing front front crank seal too. It doesn't seem to be a problem but I do have 4oo,oooKM's on her so I might as well change it too.

Pull the Rad , Intercooler and have them both cleaned. I've got the silicone boots so they are good. New hoses(Rad) should be good for another 400K

If you are replacing the springs because they sag I would just install a 2 inch leveling kit. You can install two new ones as I did but you will find ont they will sag to. Just to heavy.

I know it's gonna cost more, but if i was gonna go to the trouble to put in leveling spacers i would rather put new coils in....the ride will be much better & you won't bottom the truck out when you hit a big dip in the road.....

I agree I don't just want to bandaid the situation. New springs are on order. These ones lasted 9 years and 400,000 Km's I am not complaining.

I just replaced my coils in an 01 2wd. I got mine for 125.00 taxes in. I ordered them through Carquest. They got me the coils for a diesel HD rather than just a diesel spring. My truck sits much better now. They were also Rockwell. Don't worry about the wheel base, the guys at Dodge told me the front ends are all the same.
