it senses the air input temperature or the temperature of the inlet air.
in a speed density setup it is used in conjunction with the manifold pressure to calculate how much fuel is needed. (im not sure if the CDTs are SD tuned but this is how it is in race cars that I drive. I havent found a mass air flow sensor so Im betting that they are speed density) I am still very new to diesels

its just a sensor thats used for calculating how much fuel your engine needs.

I think at $30 and its ease of install ... its worth a shot.

Im going to replace mine soon to try and get some of my mileage back

My friend had this happen to him and he had to replace the hose. It made a little noise and lost mpg! He just bended the metal back just a little to put your fingure all around and that did the trick. When i bought my truck, he showed me and i did it before anything happend. Hope this helps. How much increase did you get on your afe stg 2? I at least got 2 to 3 mpg better.

I think I'd have it placed on the computer for a diagnostic reading and then see what that comes up with and go from there. I'm sure that's what the local dealer does here and then they hope that you'll let them fix it. Depending on what it is, they'd be half right....

Did you check for codes??

Dont forget to make sure your fuel filter and prefilter are in good shape.

Do you have a fuel pressure gauge on it?

I saw about a 4 mpg drop in the last tank before I changed them, so far it appears as if I am back to my old mileage.

Do you have any gauges? I'd check your fuel pressure to make sure that your lift pump hasn't gone bad. If you have a boost gauge, what kind of boost pressures are you seeing? This will give you an indication of a boost leak.

Whoops, according to the 24V manual, you guys don't have a prefilter.
On the 12V units it is right below the fuel heater.

Sorry for that.
