I have seen about the ''HUNTING"" PROBLEMS WITH MY 98.5 AUTOMATIC 3500 24v DODGE on here. My problem is if my truck goes into lockup around 40-50 mph it's like it goes in and out of lock until you get too around 55-60 mph. I have spent $3800 since June and still having the same problem. Here is what i've done so far Dealer said apps had low voltage replaced drove 1 mile samething, replaced transmission with heavy duty torque converter and shift kit, dealer said it may be the lift pump eletronics replaced that, changed speed sensor no luck, taped all wires from alt. taped hot wires from batteries and cleaned post, reset apps still no luck I also have a superchips tuner that I use in tow safe. Any suggestions anyone had this problem before or does this even sound like the hunting that people talk of on here? How do you install the choke supresser for this and where do you get them? Thanks
How many miles on your alternator? I ended up having mine rebuilt and solved my problem. He said the rectifier was shot causing lots of electrical noise. I caused my problem by hitting the back of the alternator with channel locks while removing the oil filter. It did blow the big purple fuse on the fender well but I guess it was after it shorted the rectifier.
Cheap fix around 45.00 at the rebuild shop.

You say taped all lines/wires from the alt ect. Did you wrap in foil first? That fixed mine. I only needed to wrap the black with brown tracer wire(memory issues) from the alt with foil and electrical tape.
They to make noise filters. I know Goerend has one and DTT and I'm sure others.
Good luck.

Yea I wrapped with foil tape the wires from alt. It really does it the worst when you have to let off like at a red light and you get back in the throttle and its stiil in lock up and today when I was pulling my camper and it went into lock up at 50mph. it started doing it. But I taped all the wires togather coming off the alt.

I have had this problem a few times before. Darner Chrysler here in Mesa wanted to sell me a rebuilt (
) tranny for a few grand the first time. After reading posts here on DTR, I started paying more attention to my posts, clamps and grounds.
I cleaned, and I mean I CLEANED all four posts and clamps, the tops of the batteries, and the little ground wires that go from the neg clamps to the fender wells. Unscrew these and hit them and the contact surface with a wire brush. While everything is disconnected, take the wire off of the lower lug on the aft bottom of the alternator. Clean this connection very well and re-install. I like to clean the tops of my batts with baking soda and water to eliminate all the acid. Let everything DRY really well then put your clamps back on.
I'll bet nickels to dollars your shifting problems will go away.
