Thumbs up More power on cold nights.

I have noticed that when I am driving home late at night and the weather is 45 degrees or colder my truck has more power. It has to be the cold air through the intercooler right?, wish it felt like that all the time.

Cool air is more dense, in other words a better combustion. Engines run better when the air is cool and slightly hummid. Which is the reason they run great just after a rain.

Yah, I know how it works, It's just that I never really noticed it on any of my previous vehicles, like I do with this truck.

I would check the IAT, it is known to cause some problems like that if it is dirty. Here is a link on that. http://www.dodgeram.org/tech/dsl/sensors/IAT/clean.htm
Hope this is of help.

Cooler weather makes a big difference. I run a PM@ And in the summer I can't make my clutch slip but when the weather is 45 or below it'll slip in forth and fifth gear from 1500 to 1900 rpm?

Yes they have more air when it is cooler, but there is a big difference between cooler and COLD. When it is cold -20 and lower I notice a significant drop in economy and less power . This was the same on my 12 and 24 valve. I think the 24 valve is worse in the COLD.

Thanks for the sensor pix and info......tremendous help!

I can't understand in my thick head though how the humid air improves combustion even though I have always seen it on my John Deere and other equipment!!

My guess is it is like a very mild version of water injection. Too much to go into here but if you are interested here is a little reading on that.

There has been some very impressive HP numbers with water/meth injection (windshield washing fluid). You can do a search here, it has been talked about also.
