Marvel Oil in crankcase?

Do any of you other guys run Marvel Mystery Oil in your crankcase? I have been adding one quart of MMO each oil change and my engine seems to rattle a little less and the oil seems to stay a little cleaner along with noticeably easier starts in the cold. Oh, and I keep it in the fuel tank religiously.

I use a home-made mix known as DREWSBREW in the fuel with each tank. Consists of about 8oz of PowerService Diesel and about 4oz of MMO. Link below describes it. Allot of discussion on various lube products. Some do not rank MMO very high...but it's been working for me thusfar. http://dodgeforum.com/forum/dodge-cu...ad-me-faq.html

That was an interesting read... I guess 16 oz of MMO in each tank of fuel that I use may be overkill.
Anyway, I was mostly interested to know if any of you ever put it in your crankcase? It just seems to quieten the engine down a lot and make it idle smoother as well..... Id recommend it but Ive only been doing this for about 40k miles although I have seen no negative effects thus far. Hate to recommend something that has only been in use for 1/10 of an engine's expected life.

I'm by no means a mech expert...but 16oz in the tank does sound like allot. In the crank sounds fine though...probably like tossing in a bottle of "synthetic" to the mixture. I use "Mystic" oil (semi-synth blend); comes in 2gal jugs for a decent price at Tractor Supply. Haven't tried the MMO in the crank yet...might try it next change just for grins.

Yea, Ill vouch for Mystik due to the MANY hours I saw being put on my Grandpa's JD tractors with it in the pan (probably 200+ hrs/change with 8k hours on the longblock).
I use Rotella and buy the 2.5 gal. jugs at TSC and throw a qt. of MMO in the jug before I pour it in the engine. Or just add it if I go to a quick lube. Not even kidding when I say the oil stays clean for a longer time....
Well, since Ive explained this much, Ill tell you how I started my process.
1) I know MMO is a strong detergent as well as a very light lubricant
2) It claims to help in high temperature oil applications by reducing thermal breakdown
3) I added it 2k miles before my next scheduled oil change to begin acting as a detergent. I didnt want it to start breaking sludge loose on a fresh oil change.
4) Changed oil, added one quart of MMO to 11 quarts of Rotella T. Immediately noticed a smoother running, quieter truck. Oil never got as black as it had been getting previously between oil change intervals.
5) Have been following this process for quite a while now.

I'm coming up about due for an oil change. Seems it can't hurt to add a qt of MMO now. I've only got about 90k on mine at this time. Previous owner ran semi-blend also (Castrol, but I can't find the semi-blend around here, so went with the Mystic based on a shop mech vouching for its historical use in both farm equipment as well as old-school racing days. Works alright for me, but can't find too many on this thread that use it. Will give the MMO in the crank a try. ((thanks for the VP comments in other post)) -d

I did a little looking around and found this info straight from MMO's website. Bias? Maybe. Some neat diesel questions though. And I have certainly had good luck. Oh, and danalex hope you have good luck with the VP....I see no reason to worry.

Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah. The unending dabate continues about how you can throw you money out for little if any benefit.
Statement from earlier post: It just seems to quieten the engine down a lot and make it idle smoother as well.

I am overwhelmed, it must be the greatest thing since hydraulic brakes. \\\\\
How does a thiner oil make it idle smoother and quieter??
It is a strong detergent but the oil stays cleaner, longer???
A thinner oil makes it rattle less.

Sorry guys, I'll use my rotella oil straight. I'll use my extra money on changing out brake fluid yearly, Changing diff lube, greasing any suspension components with grease fittings, Changing PS fluid yearly, and a few other Preventive maintaince items that add benefit to my investment.

Alrite. Im not an MMO stockholder or anything. Was just stating a few things I found interesting. I do all of the above too buddy. Well, except brake fluid and I spend way more time going than stopping.

I'm a lot more conservative about what I pour into the crankcase than what I toss into the fuel tank. There are known and documented issues with available fuel, and taking a "risk" on additives like PS and 2-cycle engine oil makes sense under prevailing conditions.

On the other hand, the additive packages in synthetic oils like Rotella, M-1, and Valv. PB are known in a general sense and have been tested - and they more than adequately cover all of the that a product like MMO might be good for. Why waste the money upping the risk unnecessarily? - my humble thinking.

If you are using MMO in the fuel to lube the pump you can save the bucks and just put in 5% biodiesel instead.

I agree. Why some people make up these snake oil concoction's is beyond me. Here you have one of the best motors out there that will go easily 1/2 million miles on the routine oil and filter changes. None of that bullcrap will make it run any better or last any longer. Without having a complete chemical analyst you could be doing more harm than good. Save your money and use it some place else.

Wow, some of you guys get kinda serious about this stuff. Its one quart of snake oil in the crankcase, not even a big deal. Sorry I even posted. I was just noting a few things I had observed. Ill try to stay off DTR from now on...
