Marvel Mystery Oil??

Hello all!
I have an uncle that has a '84 GMC with I believe is a detroit diesel engine, and he swears he has a million miles on it. I cant confirm or deny it, however I have no reason not to believe him.
Anyway, my point is, he has always used marvel mystery oil in his fuel tank and his crankcase.
I finally bought a bottle and added a few ounces to my fuel tank yesterday, and I am pretty sure that the motor sounds different, almost smoother, and less "knocking".
I was wondering, has anyone used Marvel on a regular basis, and if so, what kind of results have you been getting?
Thanks!!!

What ratio did you use in your fuel tank?

I used it religiously with my 2000 only in the fuel though,130000 on the same VP44 and only one lift pump replacement.

I used about a 1/4 bottle per fill up.
I have never used it in my 2004,cause I am not sure if the pump is lubricated by the fuel,I havent really thought about it since I only have 4000 on it now.

Also some have told me there is no benefit to using MMM,but I am a believer,it made my 2000 run great and it was so smooth when I used it.

Thanks Dave, I guess it depends on what size the bottle is. I have a five gallon pail is the reason I was asking.

As far as I know the new pump is also lubed and cooled by the fuel.

I used it in the fuel and oil in an old Chevy 350 and loved it to reduce the knocking. Not sure on the diesel though. There are additives made for diesel fuel that I use.

MMM

Has been used for years, or ATF, or Hyd Oil, and lots of other things!
In older, less sophisticated diesel engine it worked well. I would not recommend using it in any 2nd gen CTD. Unless it burns totally cleanly, it will leave soot and ash deposits that you are better off without. Have never tested MMM but it's easy to do...pour some in a CLEAN pan and use a torch to ignite it. If you get any black smoke - that is unburned particulates that will stay in your engine! Just because there are no apparent negative side effects in the first tankful, doesn't mean it's ok to use it long term. It will add lubricity, but at what price?
In my opinion, better off using a good Diesel Fuel Additive, like Stanadyne, designed to lubricate AND burn completely and you engine will be a lot happier down to road at 200-300,000 miles.

Thumper...can't imagine what there is in MMM to increase Cetane?? It normally requires Octal-Nitrate. Will have to read the label.. I may be wrong.

FWIW..It's not a detroit diesel. As far as I know, they're all 2 strokes and reserved for industrial, marine, farm applications.

I haven't seen a diesel yet that didn't lube/cool the pump via fuel.

OK, as long as we are talking about soot, what about running two stroke oil in diesel to lube the pump.

We had a guy on here some time back with an '02 that swore on adding a quart of low ash oil to each tank of fuel. He noticed no ill effects, but I may add, also added 8 ounces of Stanadyne as well. I'm at 72K and a faithful Stanadyne user with no problems as of yet.

Raften

2-cycle oil would work better than others, obviously, as it is intended to burn. I would only use a TCW-3 rated 2-cycle oil, which is the rating for liquid cooled motors and is designed to burn more cleanly and at lower temps.
That being said, unless you have a large supply just hanging around, why reinvent this wheel. For probably about the same price, with a product designed for diesel fuel, you get cetane increase for easier starts and improved accleration, anti-gel properties and less smoke thrown in.

I think it would probably be considerably cheaper to run any kind of DFA you could name than a quality 2 stroke Pre-Mix. Maxima Castor 927, which is about as good as you get, will run you about $56 a gallon. Although, I love the smell of it, hmmmm A little dab would probably do ya with that stuff.

Hey guys!
Thanks for the tips.....
I asked my uncle about how much marvel he put in the fuel tank of his truck and he told me he used a highly sophiscated method of S.W.A.G ( scientific wild a$$ guess)
He told me he just poured a few glugs of marvel in every other fill up....
By the way, what is Stanadyne, and where can I get this?

Thanks
