Check your Turbo, could it be on its way out, leaking oil into the intake?

Are you losing oil?

im glad somebody finally responded to him, i was going to say comon guys i send my buddy here for good advice and nobody is even going to try to help...lol i dont know if he is loosing oil or not, im sure he'll let us know when he logs on next time....one thing we forgot to tell you on the truck too is that it stopped charging he put an external voltage regulator on it so it will charge, being that all the gauges stopped working besides the tach, and that it stopped charging couldn't it be a computer problem?????? and how many computer are on that truck? i know i saw one on the fire wall on the passanger side, is that the one that controls the gauges and charging system?

how would you check the turbo? it doesnt seem like a turbo problem it just seems like the truck isnt getting any more fuel once you bog it down....once you down shift and get back into it, it picks up and hauls butt right away....but im not saying its not, it could be...

2 computers on that truck. One on the firewall behind the airbox. That one controls the powertrain (pcm) That one goes into the body, up to the dash and controls all your gauges, and most likely the voltage regualtor. I have to check my wiring diagrams. The second computer (ecm) engine control module is on the drivers side of engine block, mounted right to the engine. That one controls the fuel system and timing and everything else involved in making the engine run. Is the truck throwing any codes? As far as the truck smoking, like said earlier, check out the turbo. you say it is hard to spool up, if the bushings are worn out oil blow by and rubbing of the impellors will make it hard to spool up. I hope this helps a litle anyway.

I can't help you much on the 24 valves, but does your Odometer read correctly? It doesn't happen to say no bus, does it?

Past that. is there perhaps a gauge fuse somewhere?

How many miles. Sounds like 2 parter. The guages and voltage are one issue and someting with the fuel delivery is a 2nd one. The voltage and computer issue could be messing with your IP or the IP or Injectors may have an issue as well. Even on the 98.5 it might be worth having it put on scan tool or at least having the codes checked with an OBDII.

well the odometer dont work the guy said it has about 205,000 on it but it dont work so not sure it flashes and says like195,995 or something... the only thing that works in the guage cluster is the tach..all the lights, radio, heater and power windows work... the guy i bought the truck from said everything work but he had a diesel tank in the back and the wires shorted out and thats when everything stopped working besides what i said...he said the bcm was bad but as i have read it doesent have a bcm

That sounds like the vp is going bad. Get the codes read, it will need a scanner.

If you have a mechanical fuel pressure gauge to install after the lift pump, just you know how the lp is running, that would help. Also, sounds simple, but is your fuel filter clean and not blocked? Like said, sounds like you have 2 seperate issues.

there we go boys! so basically we are looking at a new pcm, and maybe an injection pump....thats the vp44 right? but correct me if im wrong but when the wires shorted out and fired the pcm could they not have fired the ecm as well? if the ecm is fried wouldnt it effect the injection pump as well?....
