LP operation during grid heater cycle
I installed the turbo timer from the DTR store this weekend and had to rework my LP wiring in the process. I had the LP wired through a relay to a key hot cicruit. When I went back to the harness to trigger the pump I remembered why I didn't like it. When I turn on the key the LP runs for ~2 seconds and the FP gauge climbs to ~5 pounds. By the time the grid heaters quite cycling the fuel pressure is back to zero. This can't be good for my IP. Is this how the stock arrangement works? I thought I read somewhere that the stock pump runs at half speed prior to start, but when I put a volt meter on the harness there was no voltage after 2 seconds untill I started cranking.

Normal operation is that when you turn on the key, you get only a quick turn of the LP. For some people it runs for a couple of seconds, others for less than a second (on mine, it's enough to run the pressure up to 16psi before falling off). Then when you crank the engine, the LP runs at partial power DURING the start to keep the pressure lower while starting. Then once you're started, it goes back to normal power.

Now I understand. I am only seeing ~5 lbs because my LP is relocated back by the tank. I guess the initial bump is to make sure that the line is liquid full and not to generate pressure on starting.
