LP, Fuel pressure, and Volume...

I got the fuel pressure guage installed finally!

I wasn't happy to see it work though...My LP is dieing...

11.5 PSI @ Idle
4.0 PSI @ WOT

I did the volume test as describe by DC... The black line is 45 oz of fuel... During the test the pump was making a odd off beat rattle (not a steady buzz like usual)...

I'm thankful that everyone here told me to go get guages... It just saved my Cummins..

Once again thank MLR1 for the banjo bolt...

Oh... The part number for the needle valve is.. WeatherHead - WH6820 suppied by NAPA..$5.00

Here a pic of the setup I used...

Replace the LP as soon as you can, and you'll be fine.

what size plastic line did you use for the volume test? it looks small to me. i thought the tsb wanted a minimum size line to perform the test.

So I am assuming you went without the isolator since you have the needle valve. How is your gauge operating? is it consistant or does it bounce around alot? The reason I ask is I have the isolator and my gauge is all over the place.

i have the autometer fuel gauge with an isolator and i have slight fluctuation at idle about 1 pound. when driving it stabilizes.

Steady needle always! Never bounces... I open the valve aprox. 1/2 Turn. I got a good rapid fall rate went shutdown. No buzzing either...

I return from the dealer....

Before LP changed
11.5 PSI @ Idle
4.0 PSI @ WOT

After LP changed (DC's analizer also matchs the guage! +/- .5 PSI)
16.5 PSI @ Starter Bump
15.5 PSI @ Idle
11.5 PSI @ WOT

I was discussing the health of the VP44 with the shop tech. She was telling me that she would like to change it but DC would do it until the VP44 spits up the dreaded P0216 code or fails completely... So hang on to my shorts I guess...

After this discussing she ask where I got all the knowledge... So I sent her to DieselTruckResource.com . She had no idea about this site... She also owns a Cummins (3rd Gen)

You little shepherd you! It's kind of funny that the dealers often don't realize that we know as much and often more than they do. Anyway its good that you caught that pump before it went completely dead and it looks like you have some good pressure now.

I have 75 miles left of waranty. I'm not driving the truck again until my gauge is installed to see the health of my lift pump. If it is bad and the injector pump fails later, do you think they will warant it, knowing the lift pump had given up the ghost?

Well the shoe is on the other foot now... She was given me a bad time about the fact there is so much to know about diesel and they are so different from gasolines... Well I've been taugh by all of you good people out there... Now I'm returning the favor back to the person that gave me a bad time when I bough the truck... Believe it or not... I even bought her breakfast last time down there... She got my truck in early and done quickly! I love it... A little honey goes a long ways!

She said that she was going to sign up after work one day... Hmmm... We might find her over in the 3rd Gen areas...

I really got here going when I told her about http://dodgeram.org/ and TSB listing on it... I know everything she does...
