Losin peddle

I have a bud with a 1999 Dodge 2500 4X4 5 speed quadcab. It is all stock other than a drop in K&N filter and a factory straight piped exhuast (not cat or muffler). It has a 124,000 miles.

He told me one night about 2 weeks ago he would be goin down the road and it would just lose peddle.I didn't really know what he was talkin about so I drove it this week and it runs good (good enough for me to get my first ticket in it, 85 in a 55),it has good power cause with 3:55s and 305/75/16 mudders it wil spin 1st,2nd, and bark thrid on dry pavement but I was crusin at about 60 MPH for about 10 miles and it did, it lost peddle. It was like you just turned the truck off.If you just hit the peddle a couple of times it would be pick right back up and go right on.After this the check engine light came on but he said after he turned the truck off the check engine light wouldn't come on again till it did it again. It will only do it when you have been crusin at a set speed for a while.

I was thinkin it is low fuel pressure and I think the reason it's low is cause the lift pump is goin out.He had the dodge place run a scan on it and no codes poped up and the mechianic said these truck do that some times.

I told him he better get a new lift pump on fast cause it will mess up the fuel pump.He was thinkin a new lift pump, pusher pump with 3/8 inch lines and new banjo fittins and maybe a Edge EZ.

He has an injector pump heading out, take it to the dealer and get it replaced.Should also throw a code when they hook the scanner to the OBD-2 plug.

Does the speedo go wonky when it happens? That sounds like the way my truck behaved when the crankcase positioning sensor (CPS) went south. As stated above, the scan tool will verify with a code. I was lucky since it was a lot cheaper than a fuel pump.

This sounds to me like the tps or apps (Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor for the techincal name). The engine will throttle back to idle regardless of where your foot is and then snap back to life when you tap the pedal. Tdhe dealership will sell you the APPS for 3 to $400.00 but don't let them put is on or you'll get ripped.

This is exactly what my truck did about a year ago an dI couldnt afford to replace the TPS or APPS so I just let it go and eventually it stopped. I have done the APPS reset a number of times thinking it would help but i also have the TC lock/unlock problem so i just reset it about once a month and I haven't had this problem for almost a year now. I don't think its your VP beccause that what I thought it was too but my fuel pressure has been between 8 and 5 and i can drop it down to 2 if i reallly get on it but i dont cause I cant afford the pump yet. But anyway try the apps reset and see if that helps. Also when I ran the codes it came back as a sensor and im pretty sure it was the APPS. If I were you I wouldnt lose any sleep over it cause like i said I have been going a year with low fuel pressure and those same problems back then and not had a problem since. I hope I didnt just jinx myself but good luck.

I guess I spoke too soon. It did it again today. I'll reset the APPS and go until the pump dies. I still don't believe its the pump but thats my oppinion.

Where is the cheapest place to get a pump?

He said the dodge place wanted 387 for a new lift pump but I thought they were cheaper than that.

He has been drivin it like that since my first post and has put another 6k on it but now it is gettin to where it is doin it alll the time.

He's been a drivin his 12v some too (95 4x4 auto dullay with a #10 plate) since he put a new tranny in it.

bad APPS

Check out the APPS or have the dollarship check out the APPS. What you want to check is the off-idle cct for contact resistance. Sorry what year was yours forgot to read this. It could be heating up internally no you won't get them to know about this likly. so you may need to insist. Or you could do this of coarse with a meter. The ECM isn't seeing peddle movment at some part of it so it may go to ?????? or just too much resistance for it to work properly.
