want to go look at 02 ext cab with 3:55 gears what other choice gears where there. also what specific things should an average person look for(im mo mechanic) ive been reading here a while mostly 3rd gen. is there a way to use the vin 3B7KF23672M280938 to see whats been done LP, vp44, etc i want a cummins bad but my 04 avalanche seem quite reliable ya know cant afford a 04.5

 

The other choice of gearing is 4.10,that is what I have in my truck. Its great for pulling but it gets old on the highway at higher speeds. My truck is an automatic. Also flip the key on-off three times (not starting it) and on that third time leave it "on". In the odometer, trouble codes will flash up. The will show up pXXXX, the big one to look for is p0216. Thats the injection pump timing failure code. You can also take the vin number to a dealer hand have them run it. The can print out all the specs on the truck and they should be able to print out any major work and warranty work done to the truck.

 

Try and find one that has the camper package as well, that'll have the overload leaves, rear sway bar, and I think that includes the limited slip diff. as well. Unless you don't really need any of that ofcourse
