Long Idle?

hey guys,
Just wondering if it can cause any problems leaving your truck idling for long periods of time (Longer then 15 mins.)? I left mine running for about 35 minuites tonight because I was totally distracted talking to a gorgeous girl
Any info.? Opinions?

No worries! There's plenty of guys that idle there trucks overnight for heat or air conditioning while sleeping. Some increase idle Rpms others don't. There was a thread about this a few months ago I'll see if i can find it.

I have seen a couple instances where idling was not good. One truck, 7.3 Powerstroke I think, had to be rebuilt after 60 or so thousand miles due to "excessive idling." Leaving your truck running all night would be understandable if it were completely necessary but I would not do it "just b/c I have a diesel."

Interesting link Chainzaw. I guess I shouldn't even think about it next time I leave her running for more then 15 mins. It sounds like putting a load on it helps to prevent wear when its idling for looong periods of time.

If you're going to have it idle, kick it up to about 1100-1200 rpm for better oil pressure. I made my own with a chevy solenoid and it cost me $22.00
