linetrashes wife here!!! will trade him in for SMART MAN.
Now, I'm not trying to bash the MRS. but, if this is her take on a repair; imagine if she had to sit on the side of the road with a dead VP. And the possible higher cost to repair (have repaired) out yonder.
Threads like this make me look at my wife and say **** I lucky. BTW I am contemplating the same expense in order to keep from being stranded.

Obviously linetrash doesnt feel good about spending that amount of cash on something he didnt really need to fix. I can see his wife being a bit peeved and she might just be ribbing him a bit. I know many are trying to bolster his position to make him feel better and that is good. No need to kick a man while he is down for doing something not smart but most if not all of us have done that at some point. I know I have. However I wont get into my stupidity and what it has cost me in dollars and ego over the years (not to mention the "look" from the wife and we do love each other dearly). At least he had the hair on his rear to admit it to her as well as publicly.
Now my part to make him/her feel better I am on my third vp and I am not heavily bombed at all. So it probably would have happened at some point anyway and now you should be good to go for a while, hopefully a long while.

I'm not saying I wouldn't feel bad myself, but as others have said there is a reason the fuse blew. This is the reason (not a fuse, but other issues) I've been babying mine for a year. I think now it is now taking the big turn. Do I wait to sit on the side of the road or spend the 900(rebuild)-1200(exchange) on a pump that is "Perfetcly Good" at this point?

That's ok ... when I spent that much on my new lift pump and injector pump, my wife asked if I had checked to see if it was still under warranty.
I tweaked
. I had already spent four hours trying to re-do the maze of fuel lines, scraped 9 of my knuckles to the bone, hit myself in the head with a slipped end wrench (the kids heard some new words that day) putting the LP and IP in and wasn't in the mood to hear her "expert mechanical advice".
... so the answer was, of course ... "Yes dear ... what, did you think I was a moron and wouldn't have thought of that BEFORE I BOUGHT THE PARTS ?? The warranty has long since expired sweetheart... Duh-huh !! now ... don't you have a pie to bake ??".
...... she informed me about two months later that the warranty finally expired on my truck and that I would have to bake my own pies from that point on.
Give the man's pride a break ... he's trying, really he is.

Well, Mrs. Moron in light of the fact you didn’t put any simile’s in your post I will reply as if you are serious.
Here’s some womanly advice.
1. What ever you refer to your husband as is a direct reflection on yourself.
2. We can’t ground him we’re not his mamma and neither are you.
3. Before you “hurt him†ask yourself if you think you are smart enough to have fixed it. If the answer is yes, then why didn’t you fix it? If the answer is no get off the poor guy’s back, he’s doing the best that he can.
4. Be thankful he’s on the computer with a bunch of diesel heads talking truck parts, instead of on some other site viewing other parts.
5. Be thankful he’s working on his truck and not at the bar working on getting his other pump to blow a fuse.
Be a sweet fragrant rose instead of a thorn in his side or he’ll spend more time with his truck and computer than he does with you.
If you were kidding the above is still good advice.

Sometimes the truth is harsh.
