Lift pump replacement/in tank setup?

apparently i get no fuel after changing the filter/gauge install, so need a new lift pump. Dealership wants $380 for the new intank setup.

I need to get this done asap, and dont want to spend $380 yet!

Is there anyway to get the original lift pump? Im sure autozone can get an aftermarket but I cant really wait for that :-/

Pump number

I got the number today. the cost from Cummins is $167.57 p/n 3990082
instead of going this route i ordered the Bully Dog fuel system management from JEGS.
I should have it tomorrow and install it this week, i'll let you know how it works if that helps.
good luck

check for a performance shop and see if you can find a Holley Blue pump. there a little less than the stocker and flow more GPM. Easy to mount/ wire.
good luck.

Does the holley blue pump completely replace the LP pump?

So all i would do is mount this inline and connect whatever wires went from the LP to the holley blue and be done with it??

I dont have time to order anything so Id have to get something local, either a replacement LP, the new intank setup (which drops psi?????) or ther holley blue.

Can get the intank setup for $285 from dealership w/ a friends discount, but everyone says it drops to 1-2psi at WOT? And only around 6-8psi at idle?

No actual proof or facts of it being damaging to the vp44, just people dont like the lower pressure.

My intank gets 13 at idle 10 wot with the Vulcan big line kit check out the relocate kit from Vulcan that and a new Carter or Holley will cost you less than the intank, Getting rid of those banjos made a great improvement.

Are any of these parts available at autozone, napa, CSK ?

I dont have the truck with me at work today (drove my 86 lancer! doh!) so i cant run out and check.. But are there just rubber fuel lines by the tank to splice into or do i need to buy the pump, fittings, lines, etc.

and how does it connect to the fuel filter canister? buy more fittings and hoses to rig it up?

Im sure id understand more if i had the truck here to look at, but i need to purchase something on my lunchbreak today and get it installed ASAP,

Thanks,

You can purchase the lift pump from cummins usaully around 150 or from napa for about 180. After you get the truck running again look into installing the vulcan big line relocate kit. Really helps keep the pressures up.

So the best drop in solution is a new replacement LP from cummins..

How much work is it to do one of the inline by tank setups such as the holley blue??

Id rather go that route as long as i dont have to buy a million more parts, if i could just do some splicing and be done.

If you buy the vulcan kit it comes complete with everything you need plus instructions. I just installed one and it was very easy. The hardest part was taking a tubing cutter and cutting the metal fuel line by the tank(easy). Taking your time it should only take about 90 minutes.

The Carter 4601 HP is the same pump as the stock lift pump and costs $90 from Summit. It has studs instead of the wiring harness adapter and slightly different mounts.

Im most likely going to go with the updated in tank setup from the "$tealership". Mainly due to time frame constraints and i havent heard anything negative about it besides what seems to be low fuel pressure.. but that can also be related to the persons other components..

also havent heard of any VP44 deaths due to or in tank pump systems failing yet.. and they are suppose to have a better fuel pickup system to get less air..

and they are available in stock.. which is a huge plus now.

reading through a search of "holley blue" on here i see alot of failures and other issues.

Any reason not to go with the new dealership in tank module.. anyone? Please say so now if you know of them to be crap or faulty as i will be picking it up tomarro afternoon if i dont hear anything bad about em.

thanks,

tim

What about the brand "master"... autozone can get those quickly..

Ill eventually switch over to a higher performance system, but now i need something that will go in with as little modification as possible. theres alot of lines and banjo fittings to confuuuze me.
