Klaky Engine
Klaky Engine
Perhaps someone can answer me this, i know this is open to intrepritation but HOW noisey should the 24v cummins be.
Having listened to several 2nd gen 24v rams here in the UK, and most of them seem to be quieter than mine. The noise is not the engine itself ie big end etc, but probably the injectors or the pump. It can best be discribed as "klaky" when idling this sound disappears if you are decelerating but is there under load.

i did start to add an injector additive ( REDEX) for a short time perhaps if started again and stick with it it may make a diffrence. Thanks for your thoughts. Hope thats all it is....
Noisy?
Mine sounds like a synphony, with lots of smoke. I was filling up the other night and a fella pulls in with a '04 and left it idla and you couldn't tell it was even running, kinda like a duraminimun!
Mine is quite noisey, especially under minimum throttle at cruise. A little more throttle and it quiets down. Check your back exhaust manifold bolts, they can cause noise that the engine drowns out at power.
Pulled in to fuel beside a Duramax with a car carrier the other day. It sat there idling with smoke boiling out the pipe. When he came out I asked what the smoke was, injectors? He said yeah. I asked if he was not afraid of washing down the cylinder, he said the dealer told him to go ahead and drive it till he got the injectors in stock. Then he went on to tell me how great and powerful the truck was.
He told me I should get one, I would be happy with it. I told him I was already happy with my little Cummins
He said, "you should feel the power" I said, "must be nice" I didn't tell him that I have never had one pass me on a hill. One day I'll run into him and show him the Cummins ISB275 on a hill. I have blown off several of them.

the milage is only 50,000 on the clock so i would be supprised if it needed adjustment, i was wondering if it's the fuel here in the UK, i'm hoping that if i use and additive to keep the injectors cleaner it might help.
Someone suggested that the timing could be a tad off.
It seems to perform ok, plenty of grunt when needed and good mpg there is a very slight surging, hesitation call it what you want when doing 85 mph up, but very slight, i think it's the injectors or the pump, unfortunatly no means of downloading any codes, or do they only show when the warning light shows

I know from expierience that if you listen to a diesel engine it will tell a nasty story of "clicks" "clacks" and "clunks"
If your really that curious, like I was, just have someone drive the truck around maby in a parking lot or somthing were you can hear it run. If it sounds good from there you are probably a ok
I went crazy for over a month because I could swear that my truck was way loud and missing until I let my brother drive it home. The whole way home I hung my head out the window, and oh boy do they sound goood
I also changed the oil and that set my nerves at rest. So if you detrermine that it sounds healthy , just turn up the radio
