Just flushed the coolant...
This being my first diesel and, I guess since my needle is fluctuating some, needing to do a flush on mine,
Is it ok to use any (name brand) coolant? Of couse Cummins wants you to use theirs, but they also told me that whatever I use, to be sure that it it Low Silicate.
Does the conditioner accomplish that?
And since it was mentioned here, would some one please email me how and where they moved the blow by bottle? As it is right now, I just spray the fan and front of the engine, every oil change, with some Simple Green. Cleans it off pretty good.
I love useful foums!
Thanks

One thing to keep in mind is the green stuff is very toxic. I have been told that one teaspoon full is enough to kill a cat. did witness a dog die from anti-freeze poisoning once.............it ain't pretty. Having a well for my water I try to be carefull about what gets spilled.

Supermod, for $42, it better stay at 190*.
jethroish, how many miles do you have on the coolant? You might just want to change the thermostat out. Even after 74K miles on the original coolant on mine, it was still neon green and there was absolutely no sludge in it. Only reason I did all of mine was because I got bored and had the money.

I have 64k on the original fluid. It still looks bright green, but I noticed under the rad. cap, on the spring, there was some gunk looking like snot. Other than that, it looks real good.

If you have any more that you don't need...

Just had to add my two cents. Another great antifreeze is the John Deere premix. It is already mixed and has the initial charge for proper sca levels. I believe it is supposed to be good for a year then you need to check the sca levels. It is a little bit more pricey but it is all in one package.
