I went through this problem about 1 year ago and tried everything too. It costed me about $2.00 to fix the problem without one incident in the last year. Their are (2) ground wires coming from the PCM, I spliced into one of the grounds and ran a nice gauge wire to the negative end of the nearest battery and also one to the frame (clean batt terminals of course). Walla, it NEVER did it again and my truck was absolutely horrible w/ this problem, it would un-lock at 65 MPH if I dared to use the A/C in the summer. I tried: re-flash, APPS reset, lots of eletrical cleaning (grounds etc), and finally the DTT noise filter which did help but didn't totally cure it...The extra ground wire did and I have the original alternator on my 98.5'. Just wanted to share b/c I know how this drove me crazy too, good luck

You might be on to something here! I reset my APPS and it took care of 90% of the problem. After reading your post I cleaned the small neg ground from the passenger side battery to the fender. Its a small black wire screwed to the fender. I cleaned off the paint and screw and it cured it 100%! Next I will follow your lead and run a new ground to the battery.

Good info, guys! I'm sure it's not going to hurt for me to follow suit. BTW: I am still running strong since the fix ... no problems, whatsoever!

Barracuda for PRESIDENT!

It makes sence that this is the ground wire causing the problem because it is the ground closest to the PCM! Clean up the ground from the PCM to the firewall also!

This is really good news for the guys with the locking and unlocking of the TC! I cleaned and refastened the passenger side battery ground from the battery to the fender and it has solved my problem 100%! No DTT noise filter! I reset the APPS first then clean this specific ground wire and it fix it 100%. Don't forget to clean the paint off under the connector. Get it to BARE metal then cover it with dialectric grease.

YAHOO! I love free fixes!

Cool, I am happy it's helping out some people, Someone on the forum gave me the idea a while back so don't nominate me for President right yet
Anyway, Here are the directions I sent to some other members a while back, I am no mechanic so take these directions as you will but it did work for me.

OK, I took a look last night at the wiring I had did for the extra ground..First thing you will need to do is remove the factory air box to get access to the PCM and disconnect the batteries as a precaution b/c you are playing around the PCM, you will notice their are (3) seperate connections going into the PCM w/ multiple wires in each one. The one you will need to work with is located furtherst right (3rd one over, closest to the drivers side) , you will find (2) wires which are both ground wires, they are black w/ tan tracers and are located right next to each other . Once located, use a "scotch-lok" type connector to attach to one (or both if you choose) to the wire that will run to the battery (i used a 14 awg wire, i do not think that is critical), they are small wires and you do not have a ton of room so be careful not to rip the wire from the factory plug, i pulled the plug from the PCM to make it easier . Run the wire over to the passenger side battery and make a good connection to the Negative battery post (clean ALL terminals of all batteries at the same time), you are done! I had tried the "re-flash" from the factory to cure this problem and it worked for a week, tried the "APPS Reset", didn't work at all. I will tell you that I first ordered the DTT noise filter (about $30) to cure this problem, I hooked it up and it helped but did not totally cure the problem and about a week after that I ran the extra ground and for around 8 months it has NEVER once acted up, the reason I am telling you this is I can not say for sure if the ground itself TOTALLY cured the problem or if both needed to happen to ultimately cure it. The ground makes a lot of sense if you think of the root problem causing the erratic TC lock and un-lock, if you find you need to do both, contact DTT Transmission and get the noise filter too, it is well worth the $30.....Please let me know if the ground alone cures your problem, I am very interested to know if I even needed the DTT filter...Good luck, let me know if u have any other questions.

While I think the "Re-grounding of the PCM" is the fix we have all been looking for concerning the TC locking and unlocking rapidly I think the above proceedure may be a little over kill. All I did was clean the connections to "re-ground" the current grounding connections by cleaning them with a wire wheel, removing all paint under the screw and running a new ground from the PCM to the battery ground on the fender. I did not tap into the PCM wire itself. The fix is 100% without a DTT noise filter.

It has always amazed me the auto makers think a ground will go through paint. That kind of connection is temporary at best.
