Installed the DTT noise filter, but this thing is still losing lockup ... what gives? It drove great all day, then I got on the freeway to go pick up one of my kids and it starts acting worse than before. I had to pull off and call the wife, so she could go get my son ... I am getting sick of this POS truck!!! Please, someone help me out here, before I go insane!

I feel your pain. Mine did it today also. Do you have anything plugged in to the cig lighters? Have you replaced the batteries, alternator, blower fan? Anything electrical? Think about it hard.

I can get it to stop if I turn off all the electrical stuff. Try it the next time it happens. Where your lights on?

Checked the batteries and they were fine (both 12.75 Volts). I recently cleaned all the connections too. I had everything turned off (heater, a/c, etc.). Nothing in the cig lighter. Yes, my lights were on, but I've had them on all day, as it's foggy here.

That $500 is looking mighty tempting!!!

I'll bet that's it. The lights are drawing the batteries down to a level that interfers with the thing. I had my hood open for 3-4 hours and the light under the hood drew the battery down. Next time it happens try turning the lights off, or down to running lights. ( Do not attempt this at night. )

 

Ok, I did an APPS reset today, per DTT's instructions, but didn't loosen the screws to adjust it. I was able to use a channel locks to move it slightly and got the reading I needed. It was at .49 VDC and needed to be at .526 VDC. I just checked it and it's now at .48 VDC.

I was throwing the P0122 code (tps voltage low) and had it erased this morning, after I finished the install. The code hasn't come back (YET!). Could this be my problem?

 

Could be, I'm not up on this APPS reset thing, but it could be it. I would try setting it to the correct setting (per instructions) and see what happens.

What voltage is your batteries engine off?

12.75 seem low for the battery voltage. How old are your batteries?

 

Low? Why do you think that? I've been told that's very much acceptable. Please explain.

With the battery charged, open circuit voltage should be 12.6 to 12.8 volts with the engine off and all loads off. With the car running and all loads off, the voltage should be between 13.6 and 14.5 volts."

 

Dodge has a bulletin regarding this specific problem. They can do a reprogram to dampen the APPS signal and make it less susceptible to electrical noise from alternator brushes, worn motors, or the APPS itself. I've done it to vehicles before and it works well.

 

Check the batteries with them disconnected. The batteries are wired in paralell. This keeps the system at 12 volts, but puts out more amperage than a single battery. Since they are in paralell a good battery may be supporting a bad battery(or a battery with a dead cell or two). Disconnect the the batteries and check each one individually. If you have a bad battery or battery with some dead cells, it could be making the voltage regulator act screwy and put more noise on the lines and be causing your shifting problems.
