Isspro EGT
Isspro EGT
I know that it is important for us to have gauges and it is a shame that Dodge does not put good ones in these trucks. However sometimes these things can make a person paranoid, especially if they are not working right. I have had problems with my fuel pressure guage due to going through an isolator and problems with my tranny temp just because of loose wires. How common is it for an EGT (isspro) to give erratic readings? My EGTs seem to be higher than usual and I don't know where to look for the problem. I do know that the fins on my AC and tranny coolers need to be straightened. Even though I run a bug screeen they still get damaged. This may have some effect on my intercooler function. What say you? I have an 02 with a afe air filter and am running the basic Edge on the lowest setting. I have 120K on the truck most pulling a trailer and I seem to run over 1200 degrees now just pulling small hills. I am babying it for the time being.
Couple of things to check:
1) GROUND. A poor ground on that Pyro amp box can cause all kinds of problems, make sure it is tight, and to good clean metal.
2) Air filter clean? If you are hitting 1200 on sustained grades, does it back down to the 650 or so you normally see at highway speeds?
3)Lose that isolator, they're junk.

Yup,
Cruise at 70 mph (level ground) should be in the 700-800* range... no matter what the bombs.
Cooldown after 2-3 min should be 250-300*
Never tried it with a pyro, but you could get a cup of boiling water and insert probe to see if you get 212*?? (Works well when testing a tranny temp gauge).
Or maybe a radar heat gun to compare manifold temp to gauge reading??

Hmmm. I would think that if your cruise and idle temps are fine, but increased power levels bring the gauge up, then you may have other problems. Perhaps an intake boot is leaking or something.

You can make a boost leak detector. If you search for that, you will find it.
It's nothing more than a 4" pvc cap with a tire inflation valve in it. You put it on in place of your air filter, and pump 30 pounds in it. squirt soapy water on them, and you will see the leaks.
