intermittent starter issue
intermittent starter issue
started a few weeks ago, my '99 3500 will randomly not turn over. Turn on the key, wait for the WTS light to go off, go to start and nothing. I hear a tick (like a relay) from the engine bay but nothing. Batteries are good, nothing dims like the batteries are low, voltage is good on both. Try the key a few times and bam! it fires right up. Sometimes only does it once, today it took about 8 attempts before the starter engaged. Seems to work fine for several days without even a hiccup, and then does it a few times.
Right now I cant tell if its heat/cold related or if its random. Is this a common issue or what? Any help would be great.

Your solenoid contacts need to be replaced inside the starter, quite an east fix. Go here: http://fostertruck.com/dodge/
Sounds like the contacts in the starter are going out. Fairly common in our trucks. Check out Auto Electric Specialists for a starter repair kit for around 18.50. Easy fix and your starter will be like new. Not scamming here, just been my own experience and I've been happy with the product. Searching on here will tell you more about it.
