intermittent no start

All processes are normal: Key on, Air Dog hits 15# then back to 0. key to start & engine usually hits right away and runs as it should. 3 times recently after short shut off (ie running into a store) all seems normal including fuel pressure & crank speed but engine won't start. Wait a few minutes & it starts right up. The only code is an over boost code shown on Autozone borrowed scanner. I think it isn't getting fuel to the injectors. What is the next step? Are there other scanners that can test individual sensors regardless of any non-existing codes?

From: North Carolina or Kentucky. Take your pick
Dealer scan tool will read all sensor outputs.

Sounds like a fueling issue to me.

Agreed but I have no idea what is causing no fuel. AirDog goes to 15# then back to 0 as is normal. Engine cranks, VP apparently no squirt. Why? I don't really want to pay dealer an hour's labor to tell me. I also don't want to randomly swap parts. I plan on asking some more shops about their scanners. Any other ideas?

I changed the fuel over flow valve & thought I was done. Not so. The engine usually starts normally but sometimes will just crank. This has never happened the 1st start of the day. Every time it happened, I had shut it off to run into a store. There is no set time for how long it will be off & not start. It has always eventually (after a wait of various lengths) started normally. It always has fuel pressure to the gauge & cranks fine. CKP threw a code 1 time. I cleared it & no more codes. I haven't seen any signs of fuel leaks but will check more closely. Any other ideas?

be sure and look into the crank saft position sensor. Mine caused that years ago.

solved - it was Crank Position Sensor

Sorry, I thought I posted the fix. The CKP threw a code so I replaced it with a lifetime Borg Warner part from ORiellys. That fixed it at least for the last 150 mi. I went with the BW part because the previous Cummins part failed at approx 40,000 mi. I assumed that the original part was from Cummins also so I took a chance that BW would go as far AND was cheaper AND has a lifetime. Also learned hat the starter wiring doesn't need to be disconnected. Simply pull the bolts & set starter on the frame. Make sure to DISCONNECT THE BATTERIES.
