Intermentant start help

Friend bought a 01 , trying to run down a problem. Usually it starts cold first fire and will run for 3-5 min and shut off. If you crank it after it shuts off it will just crank and crank and not fire. If you pull the battery terminals off and put them back on it will fire up ( sometimes ) . ???
Thing is for the time the truck is running it runs great/ throttle response. ect.

What I do know is...

Good fuel supply
0215 IP cont. circuit
1689 No comm. between ecm and IP
1698 No ccd message recieved from pcm

I'm looking at what I should check before IP replacement.
Thanks,
Eric

I had this same problem on a cummins in a fork lift. It has an injector pump like our trucks without the computer though. The problem came from worn contacts in the fuel cutoff selenoid switch. They would work and keep the selenoid open with the engine cold, but as soon as it got some heat built up the selenoid would close. Maybe your problem is similar?
