Intank LP pressures

Dodge replaced the LP with an intank pump the other day. WOT was 3lbs, other wise 7lbs at idle. I added the Vulcan intank kit and the pressures are now very steady at 8lbs +/- 1 lb. 7lbs wot and 9 lbs idle. Dodge says its the volumn not the pressure thats important. Hope they are right.

if your holding 7 psi at WOT with a in tank, I would call that good and drive it. If you put a lot of mods on it, and pull it back down real low I might think about doing some thing different

Well if you want to check do a volume test on you current fuel system. Pull the fuel line lose from the VP44 and put it in a one gallon container. Then bump the starter. The LP should run for 25 seconds or so. After its stops you shuold have a minimum of 45 ounces of fuel in the container. If not record your results and test again.

Just for kick and giggles... My first LP failed there volume test at 10 PSI at WOT. The test failed randomly 6 out of 10 test failed. I kept pics of the test results and wrote them down. It was enough for DODGE to replace my LP pump and then 1,000 miles later replace my VP44 (0216 error code).

As for your fuel pressure thats getting scare thin in my book...

Here is the link for the TSB...

Here is a pics of the orignal pressure requirements by DODGE in there service manual.

If the only thing changed was the pump, and it has lower pressure, it will have lower volume.

It is volume, and not necessarily pressure, that is important. Everything else being equal, more pressure will be guarantor of more volume.

The problem is Dodge and Cummins have not always know exactly is causing LP and IP failures, and have changed their thinking about it over the years.

The VP44 was designed for use without a lift pump.

Well with the Vulcan system I figure I'm getting more volumn with about the same pressures. I will do my own volumn test.
