Injector Pump or APPS Sensor???
I am having the same EXACT problem, cruising along at 70mph with cruise, kick off the cruise and wham, dead peadle, pumped peddle several times (seemed like forever) and it took off, did this 3 times with in about 15 mins of each other. Had been driving for approx. 150 miles and it was raining. Thats when I got the 1693 code on dash, with NO Check Engine light, a dealer read the code with ODBC11 and it showed a p0216 code. He reset the code and I made an appointment with my dealer to fix injection pump. Could FIND NOTHING wrong, 12 to 14 PSI idle, min 11 PSI WOT, and running great! He could thought it was unusuall to have gotten a P0216 fault and NO check engine light.
He claims nothing was done, but truck runs better now than prior to being taken in, must just be that imagination thing.
Oh yea, the lift pump also passed the flow check with flying colors. Mech did NOT appear to be impressed with the flow check test, thought it was bull and that you needed the psi because of IP pump cooling.

PS.
Have probably driven around 1K miles since with NO problems? hope this re-rears its head prior to warranty expiring, but when I'm near home also..... LOL

Hey Flatty, please let us know what you figure when you do this.

BTW, I got the part at Oregon Fuel Injection.

I have changed my over-flow & did exactly Nothing for my truck, after I was told by a reliable source that would fix my problem in the past. I had the 0216,0122,123, & some other APPS related codes today. I ordered the Bellcrank to replace the whole TPS assembly. My voltage seemed to check out. That price from Cummins is way to high. That guy must have been smoking crack. I purchased mine sometime back from Cummins & it was only 1100 & change. I know a place in Macon ,GA called A & M turbo that will sell you a reman for around 1100. Talk to Scott at 478-788-8771. Or buy the Hi performance one & be through with it.
Well I was wrong. The overflow did nothing. I get dead pedal about 3 times this morning. It only happens when it is cold. Looks like I am parking the truck for a while, and only driving when I have to. I will be riding my bicycle for a while.

It seems this is a major issue with our trucks. How does Dodge decide when to recall/repair issues on their vehicles?
I think this dead pedal issue can put people in dangerous situations. Hope someone finds a solution to this problem.

Well like I said, I had this problem. I replaced the overflow, no dice. I can't swing the cost of a new pump, so I did the APPS reset (let it reset for over 2 hours). I then fired it up, and DISCO!!!! the problem is gone *knock on wood*. I have been driving this way for about 2 weeks now, and it has not given me the code or the dead pedal yet. I even ran my truck to past the red in the gas gauge the other day. No worries so far. I am driving it to tAhoe this weekend. I still ahve to replace the Fuel pump (that is pretty much dead). I think I will replace it with the stock LP from Cummins, and the add a CArter pump over by the tank.

Would bet that the problem is that the housing has a brass sleeve for the advance piston in bottom of your pump the piston gets to where it cannot slide and does not advance the cam ring to match the engine speed. the cure is a new housing and advance piston at least not figuring wear on the supply pump, roller shoes, etc
My truck ( 01 3500 ) has been doing this for the past couple of weeks. Started out doing it only after an hour or so of driving....now it's constant.
Picked up my new bellcrank assembly last night and will be putting it on this morning.
We'll see how it goes.
I would like to know as well why this isn't being dealt with by Cummins? Seems everyone I talk to is experiancing this problem. My dealer keeps 10 APPS in stock.

if you have a P0216 code, you have a dying VP-44... if you've done the APPS reset and still have a dead pedal it's a good bet that you have a dead VP-44.
Cummins doesn't do warranty work on Dodge trucks. Only Chrysler can warranty or deny warranty on a Dodge truck. Cummins changed the transfer pump design/placement on buses, RV's and other Cummins specific applications because of lift pump problem.
Chrysler has changed their testing procedure several times so that it's in their favor.

What is a bellcrank assembly? I'd like to try this before replacing my VP-44. I know my truck has been getting worse especially since I've been riding my motorcycle. I thinks she's jealous....
But seriously can you give us a run down of what you did and if you have had any issues since your install?

As far as I can tell....it is just the metal bracket the APPS comes installed on. Makes the box bigger, so it doesn't seem so bad to hand over $400 for something that fits in the palm of your hand.
I'm going to have to take my truck in this weekend and have it tested. It sort of had a bit of dead pedal on the way home tonite.....but a bit different then before. Before, I had to change my engine rpm to regain pedal. Tonite, it was cutting off for only a second then coming right back on.
I think I'm going to have them ( my diesel shop....not the dealer! )set up a fuel pressure guage in my truck to see what it's doing when the pedal cuts out.

Hey KYOT, I replaced my bellcrank alias TPS today. My truck has been throwing apps codes,VPfailure codes & it all stopped today. The dealer price on this is 270 bucks. I dickered mine down to 325 dollars. They said go fly a kite. I said pull up my account & let me pay my bill. I paid up & let them know that they would not be getting anymore business in the shop or sales, then called the owner. There is now a new parts girl & I got it for 325. You can also go to Mopar4less. I think they advertise on this site. You will get a much better price. Those codes are flukes. I think when your truck is running bad because of APPS, it may throw those VP failure codes. Change the TPS, clear the codes & keep truckin!!
