Im lost with new head..
I just put a head on my 2000 that was of an 01. I had the head magnafluxed, surfaced and a valve job done. Installed head with ARP studs, cummins gasket set #4090035, and new 150hp injectors. The problem im having is difficult, first off it is way hard to start, even if i let it run for 10 mins. and turn it off and try to restart it, second thing is at an idle it runs a little rough, not a miss but rough, and the EGT's are 400* at an idle. I put my stock connector tubes and injectors in and its still the sameI have also checked the valve lash and adjusted several times, Intakes at .009 and exhaust at .018. Does anyone have any info to point me in to sanity to get my truck back on the road? Thanks for all info.

Check your fuel lines from the bottom of the drivers feet all the way thru the system and back.
The hard starting sounds like you are losing your prime. Is it easier to start right back up withing say 30 seconds than it is after say 30 min?
Working around the lines, especially with that heavy head, it would be easy to push on one of the rubber lines and an older hose that wasn't cracked could crack easily.

I'm just guessing but all the injectors have o-rings on them. I don't know if the connector tubes have any o-rings or not. Is there a return line off of the injectors out of the head. I'm just guessing on stuff. It's got to be a air leak of some kind. I used to run the old 7.3's and if they had a wet spot on a line they would air lock.

400* idling means extra fuel. make me think that you may have a clogged return line off the back of the head, forcing extra fuel into the cylinders making it tough to start. remember these trucks dont like starting with high/extra fuel pressure

Ive worked on it most all of today and i tried two sets of conn. tubes both with new o rings to no avail. Im still stumped, im almost wondering if maybe i got the wrong gasket set cause the set i got from cummins had two gaskets that looked like the ones that would go on the oil drain tube for the turbo but had a square hole in the middle and it also included a larger size copper washer that looks to be about 3/4 of an inch that i havent a clue to where it goes. Thanks for all the suggestions and please keepem cummin im trying everything.

Still sounds as if you have a air leak into fuel delivery circuit to IP. Tempoary replace the fuel ine from filter to IP with a clear vinyl hose. Purge system carefully. Run for a few minutes and observe if bublles are passing through fuel hose. If they are you must find the leak. Another area that is causing leaks is at fuel tank. Hoses and fittings crack back there and in tank unit.
