If your having multiple failures then you need to be looking at other things. Someone mentioned fuel quality - so start adding lube to your fuel. Low sulfer fuel doesn't lubricate as well I'm told. and the VP uses the fuel to lubricate it - reason you can't burn other readily available fuels. 600 miles to a failure would tend to indicate a problem with the pump out of the box. If it was mechanical, then poor machining - that should be a warrenty issue. Electrical in 600 miles well - ya buy a new computer, you leave it running for the first 36 -48 hours - if the electronics were going to give you a problem then they did early or they worked great for a long time. Still should be a warrenty issue.

Again, the 0216 DTC does not have anything to do with the mechanical side of the pump and if it is getting properly lubed or if you are using fuel lube additives or not. The VP44 ECU does not have a "learning curve" and is a separate peice of hardware from the ECM. The 0216 DTC is a "timing failure" which has typically been related to an intermitent PC board failure within the ECU.....it usually does mean that the VP44 ECU is not much longer for this world. This is not a typical type of failure for a new VP44 but rather the result of the PC board going through hundreds and probably thousands of heat cycles before the solder on the board begins to fail. I would seriously question the fact that the VP44 ECU was actually brand new.....are you able to verify to your satisfaction that it truely was brand new?

Only one code and that is P0216, what its from I don't know. Bad out the box..More than likely since these are junk thats rebuilt anyway!!!

All this time I though that they were "NEW" , but they ask for your core so they can rebuild them and charge $1200 again and again!!!

Well, there you go......it most definitely was a rebuilt unit and not brand new if they are asking for a Core!

I have 105,000 miles, and do not have a problem with the IP. I have replaced 3 LP's, however. I love my 24 valve, and if the IP goes, I might entertain the idea of installing a P7100.
If you sell it, you'll still have to install an IP, or sell it for considerably less.
Blue Chip and ADT are the places that sell the FED EX pumps.

Fuel lubricants have nothing to do with the electronic control unit (VP44 ECU)for the VP44.....the 0216 DTC typically signifies an electronic failure and what you do to the mechanical side of the pump will have no effect, bad or good.

Look here for the special Blue Chip VP44 with NEW and improved electronics and a NEW pump housing.....I have not seen this version of the VP sold anywhere else.....these apparently are the same VP44 ECU's that the Fed Ex trucks use.

there are no new VP-44's to be had... all of them are remans, doesn't matter if you get it from Dodge or a diesel shop.

I feel your PAIN . I'm on my 3rd VP-$$, I went with Blue Chip on my lastest one, Hopefully the Up graded electronics make a difference. Was your current pump failure a Dealership replacement? I've had quite a few issues with my CTD, but I did with my Ford also.

All vp44 rebuilds done by Industrial Injection include all the latest updates, including the FPCM. Good guys to deal with.
