If you want good MPG....

Ok for my 1000th post here are the numbers after cleaning the sensor. Normally my truck would hit half a tank at around 200 miles on the trip. Fast forward too this week and that I now just reached 300 miles on a half tank . Since this is a pretty cheap part I am going too just change it every 10,000 miles along with my air and fuel filter regiment.

I ordered mine Tuesday from wholesalemopar and they finally decided to email me at about 5:30 to let me know the part I ordered no longer existed, had been superseded, and oh by the way we cancelled your order.

No way, that's funny, must have been some sort of mistake.

When I cleaned the IAT sensor on my truck it really didn't make any difference regarding the fuel mileage. I had been using a "oiled " type air filter and the sensor did have some oil on it. The following year I replaced the sensor but it didn't make any difference then as well. From what I've read, the sensors tend to get more fouled with trucks that have exhaust brakes and possibly ones that use oiled type air filters. Also, the impact on fuel mileage varies from truck to truck. I found the sensor to be a PITA to remove and re-install because of its' location. You need a deep 13/16ths or 21mm socket. Since you are using such a big socket on a semi fragile part you have to be careful. I used an electro contact cleaner when I cleaned the part as opposed to carb cleaner which might have an adverse effect on the plastic parts of the sensor. When I bought the sensor three years ago from a Dodge dealer, the p/n then was 05014197AA. That number has probably changed by now. I have also read that some folks have seen mileage improvements by cleaning their trucks' MAP sensor. I haven't tackled that yet.

Pretty sure its the exhaust brakes that are the major cause of mine and others with exhaust brakes too get really bad. IIRC it was also mentioned in the owners manual with my jake brake.

Ok,so I have to ask. I understand it measures air-temp in the the head,so what is making it gain OR loose mileage?
Does it want to see heat? I assume,or does it benefit from cooler?
The reason I ask is why can`t the readings be "fooled" either way to improve mileage?
My 01` HO is a COMPLETELY different truck in cold to hot wheather.MUCH smoother and torq`ier in hot weather than cold. Dead cold winter 17-19mpg.
{I know cold is gonna cost ya mileage} HOT 90+ 22-24mpg.
But the BIG change is smoothness and torq.
