idling??
i was just browsing through youtube looking for some bad@ss videos of cummins trucks, and i clicked on one that had some thing about a high idle setting, and now i'm curious. well in the comments it said something about a factory program that has to be enabled by the dealer or something. and that the high idle prevents the truck from building up gunk when the truck idles for a long time. is it a problem to let the truck idle for a while?? how long? most of the time i let my truck warm up in the morning for 5,10 sometimes 15 or 20 mins, and let it idle a while before i shut it off too? would this be a problem? should i just build oil pressure and go? i live in south jersey and in the winter time it's usually between 15 and 45 or so degrees F. thanks

you can bend the push rod tubes...only a prob. when its cold out.the only problem u might encounter is that if u bring your truck to the dealer for the high idle flash, they might have to also update the ecm to the latest program which may or may not be a good thing. if your truck is actually warming up then u wont have a prob.how long u let your truck idle is relative to outside temp...so there is no correct answer to how long to let it idle.

I asked this same question a while ago. Someone on here (cant remember who it was) who seemed to know what they were talking about said let it idle for no more than 5 minutes. They told me to just it idle for a couple minutes or so and frive easy until you get up to temp. (easy being no more than 10 psi boost on stock truck) but then again this is all hear-say so i dont know for sure

I beleave that when it active in you ecm. It increases the idle rpm to 1200. this helps for those cold morning warm up's. I beleave it's set to read the water temp, incoming air temp and one other sensor to activate. I just used a cheap load bar from harbor freight. I cut it down and put it back together so both of the screw in feet were there. Start the truck, wait a couple of mins (coiling up the extention cord, tussle with the dog) to get all the oil pumping thought the motor and wedge the bar between the seat mount and the go pedel. then twist the bar to extend the feet till it reachs 1200 rpm. Someone on here cut a broom stick to the right lenth for theres. It really helps get the truck up to operating temp and the heater going.
