IAT Sensor Question

The other day I set out to remove/clean my MAP and IAT sensors. Getting the MAP sensor out is easy, and it was completely clean (no soot at all). Getting to the IAT sensor is a huge PITA, so I'm figuring that if the MAP sensor is clean then the IAT sensor has probably clean too, and I'm not going to bother. Any flaw in my logic?

i cleaned mine recently...pulled it out, had some gunk on it. cleaned it with soapy water, even a did in rubbing alcohol to dissolve anything on there. it was nice and shiny and black when i decided to hit it with some brake cleaner. thats when i found out the sensor is supposed to be white plastic.

my recommendation is go ahead and take 20 minutes and clean it. i know its tough to reach, but i did mine and im a big ol' boy with rather larger arms

iat sensor soot is mostly an issue on manuel trannys with exhaust brake but u should pull and check anyway. iat and map control timing, fuel, and grid heaters, if u pull the iat check the sensors range with a meter to assure it is functioning properly

wow ... I've heard that on occasion guys have seen lower EGTs, more horses and better fuel mileage after cleaning.. is this common? and do you need to clean it periodically?

its prolly hard to get to with the stock fuel filter canister on the motor...but i dont have that.

anyway look on the drivers side of the head, in the back under the integrated cast intake plenum, there will be a large sensor with a 3-wire plug going to it...thats the MAP sensor...un plug that and the IAT is directly behind it...and yes it is a pain to get to. but if you have small hands and arms (not like my fat 350lbs self has ) then you will be able to get it with a little patience

Its not bad to get out or in once I got the hang of it. A snap really.

Just slip your right arm in from the side and your left arm over the top of the valve cover.

I read that the MAP (1 1/4" deep socket) and IAT (13/16" or 27mm deep) sensors should really only be cleaned w/ electrical parts cleaner due to the plastics used in them. Brake cleaner was said to harm them. Anybody know the truth to this?
