IAT Sensor - Maintenance
IAT Sensor - Maintenance
There have been many post in regards to IAT sensors and cleaning, replacing, testing and relocating.
How often should you clean the sensor?
I pulled mine for the first time it was black and oily. Little carb spray and it was clean again.
What I noticed:
* Engine Temp is lower
* MPG is rising again
* Less black smoke at WOT
* Engine is quietier (less knock)
* Seems to have more power

I run an exhaust brake so it gets sooted up, clean the IAT every 10k and it acts just like you have described................have cleaned a few for others without an exhaust brake and it is always clean, no oil, no soot.

I also have an exhaust brake and the dreaded dirty IAT. I've cleaned it but it seems to get dirty faster than I can get to it. Not really sure how much it affects the engine performance but I have been looking for a way to relocate it. I have a new one but my only obsticle is I cant find a female end to the IAT wires which is keeping me from making a wire extension. I dont want to cut the stock wires either. I believe the torque spec's is 10 lb. too. Also I have read that you need to be carefull what you use to clean it with because the sensor can be ruined. Not sure if it was carb cleaner or brake cleaner. Maybe someone else will know.
