IAT Sensor

How does one check the IAT sensor to know if it is working properly?
I read that if it doesn't read temp right you can use more fuel hence poor
fuel economy and higher EGTs.

Here's a couple links I found useful for checking the IAT; I basically took mine out and cleaned it off...it wasn't very dirty and I didn't have a problem, just felt like PM'ing.

yeah, I did the same to mine last week. Took it out and cleaned it, but it wasn't really all that dirty. Havn't noticed any difference in fuel mileage or performance after doing it either. I think it would have to get pretty cruddy before it would affect performance.

You can pull the sensor and ohm it out at different temps to see if it is reading correctly. I do not know the specs, though I remember seeing them somewhere on one forum or another. Mine was pretty nasty when I cleaned it the first time, but 20k miles have not done much to it.

Has anyone pulled their map sensor out and cleaned it? Also did it change how the pickup ran?

What size socket does it take? I may try that this weekend.

One guy on TDR said he used a 22mm socket to get his off, but another said that didn't fit, but a 13/16" sparkplug socket fit perfectly. I honestly can't remember what I used.
Unless its gummed up something fierce, I don't think there would be much advantage to cleaning the MAP sensor. Its basically just a sensor with a diaphram in it, with a port in the end for the boost pressure to enter the sensor and push against the diaphram. So unless that hole is clogged, I don't think cleaning it will do much.

I meant MAP sensor, but your explanation of the way it works makes me think a cleaning would be a waste of time. Thanks.

alright removed it. piece of advice for people. buy a pick with a 90 degree bend at the end for removing the sensor clip. after you get the connector off. one website calls for a 13/17" socket. very tight fitting. 22 mm is too big. 21 mm is loose fitting but works the best. i removed my dip stick tube to make it easier.

if you have huge forearms like i do i wish you the best of luck. very very very tight space.

so i cleanedit off but with 146 km on it it was very clean. we will see how my miallege is effected.
