hx 40
blackdodge24:
In my opinion, yes, the HX-40 will be a better turbo than the HX-35. They flow more air and on my trucks I gained about 30 H.P. with them over the HX-35. I recommend the 16 cm exhaust housing on the HX-40 and if you buy one make sure it is wastegated at between 35-40lbs of boost.
Many members here may tell you that the HX-40's are not a good turbo, but I ran them on my 1996 and 2002 Dodge CTD's for several years with no problems whatsoever! But, they can't take a steady diet of real high boost numbers (42-45lbs+). If you set the wastegate as I said above, you will get good service from them.
Good luck.

i have an hx-40, 4 inch down and out the back, a 155 horse injector, comp box and 42 psi for about a year now 200 miles a day and she runs a helluva lot better than the 35 i had on there b4. it'll make you smile more as she whistles. my buddies think i'm fedex droppin a package when i pull up though. guess i forgot the muffler

The HX-40/16's will run around $1,000.00-1,200.00 and I think the downpipes are about $150.00 now. I would shop around some.
I did not run studs on my 2002 Dodge CTD 24 valve when I ran the HX-40.
I had the stock bolts in there for 94,000 miles. As I said, if you keep the boost in the "sweet spot" of that turbo (35-40lbs) the turbo will give you good service.

Are they internally WG'd?
Do you just control the boost with a boost elbow or do you have to run an external WG?
Are they direct bolt on with the exception of the DP?
What would be a better budget turbo, a PDR hybrid 35/40 12cm or a straight up HX40?
Thanks!!

Torque Junkie:
Let me try to answer your questions for you.
1.) The HX-40's are internally wastegated.
2.) Yes, they are a direct bolt-on with the exception of the downpipe as you
noted.
3.) IMO, the HX-40/16 is a better turbo than the HX-35/40 Hybrid. I ran them both and I really liked the HX-40/16 better.
Hope this helps you some.

I have a line on one brand new in the box for $350.00, don't now the exhaust size yet though, is it worth it to try and get it and spend another $150.00 on a downpipe and have $500.00 into the deal or just save for a better charger.
