How often do you change your fuel filter?

I had a 1992 12V I changed the oil every 5k and I had to change that little filer every 10k or I would be found on the side of the road changing it.

My 2001 24V I change the oil at 10k, I have been running the fuel filters 25k+ or so and never had one clog. Actually forgot when I change my last one, so it's due now.

I am just afraid to run them too long and starve the VP. Your thoughts?

I have 100K on my truck and I changed mine out twice since I purchased it new. On both occasions, I think the filters looked fine. Plus if you have a fuel pressure gage you can tell if you flow is becoming restrictive. Unless you hang out in Mexico, I would not worry about to much.

Whenever the fuel pressure at idle starts to drop.

I dont want to have to put a gauge in the cab, if i were to add one it would be trans temp. I just want the truck to be reliable,

A fuel pressure gauge is one of the more important gauges to have on a 24 valve 2nd gen truck like you have. This is because of the fuel pressure sensitivity of the VP44 injection pump as well as the stock lift pump being prone to failure.

Reliability is my #1 concern as well, and in my truck I added three gauges: fuel pressure, boost, and EGT (exhaust gas temp). They all have their purpose and they're all very important to me. Transmission temp is also great to have on a truck with an auto. I have a manual transmission, but if I had an auto I'd have a tranny temp gauge too.

Depends on the fuel. around here I change mine every 20k and its super clean. If I fueled from a rusty farm tank id change it every 5k
