How to get tow'd?

Hey guys, Im having wiring and fuse issues and need to tow my truck home.

Just wondering if I can put the key in run position, put truck in netural and go, or do I have to disconnect drive line or anything like that.

I know some vehicles will burn stuff up if just in neturtal, but will mine??

TIA Ian

Disonnect the drive line. There is no rear pump on the transmission so no lube. For what it costs to repair I would not tow more than a mile if you choose to not take it off.

just put the tc in neutral, short distance at slow speed should be good to go.

If you have a 4x4 switch instead of manual shift I think there is a procedure to put it in neutral for towing with truck off, check manual just to be sure.

Since you are just going a short distance I wouldnt bother pullin the shaft. I used to tow stuff all the time just a couple miles and never pulled it, never had any problems. If you are worried about it, it only takes a second to undo the 4 bolts. Take a ratchet strap and strap it to the frame so you dont lose any fluid out the tailshaft.

When my VP went out the tow truck driver would not tow unless I let him disconnect the driveline. As stated, there is no pump unless the engine is running so you'll likely do damage.

With the transfer case in neutral there is no connection between the wheels and the gearbox/automatic transmission.

Four bolts and a tie strap is cheap insurance on a $$$$$ trans.

I was told not to tow an NV5600 w/o disconnecting period.

Short distance I wouldn't worry. The xferC has its oil pump run from the output shaft to the rear axle. Slow speed and there should be enough residual lubricant in the rear bearings in the transmission to keep the bearings lubed. IF you wanted to be sure, you could put the tranny in Park, the TC in neutral and pray it stays that way all the way home (not my preference).

I'd look in the FSM for final answer. Mistake will be costly. U-Haul trailer is <$50 perhaps $35. For cash you may get a flat bed driver to do it cheap.

If you do this be sure to use a new FACTORY strap kit everytime and torque the bolts correctly. The straps are only ment to be streched once .A new rear pinion yoke , universals and driveshaft and maybe tranfercase output shaft if your lucky could be in your future.

Transfer case in neutral and trani in park. Transfer completely disconnects wheels and drive lines from trani. Same as towing a jeep or anything else with neutral transfer available

Not the same.....and anyone who feels that they are positive enough to tell someone otherwise should be willing to help foot the bill for any repairs.
