How to get codes?

I tried the key on , key off X3 and I get nothing but the mileage in the odometer window, so if there are no codes will it indicate nothing ?
My Snap-on scanner indicates no codes found
Truck was built Mar-2000

If you have access to a Snap On scanner - theres no need to do the key on/off thing.

I've got to do the key on/off method a couple times before it will scan...

So to see if there's any codes being displayed, you turn the key on & off 3 times? And then look in the odometer window?? Is that in the Owners Manual??

My Snap on is in Generic mode as my inserts only go to 98/99, in Generic OBDII it will only read certain info, ie Baro/Map engine load/rpm/ECT/. It shows no current codes as well, I guess I should have asked "what is displayed in the ODO window if no codes are present/" as I have no changes (all I see is the mileage) to indicate that the ECM even ran a diagnostic test. for example if you pull codes out of an older GM it will indicate a code 12 that there are no codes and all is working.

Dr Evil, I just noticed your outta Edmonton as well..

I sent the following to another person...
Hooked my scanner to the truck (in Generic OBD2) and it shows engine load which will hit 99% , also at Idle the MAP shows 56.8 HG I did the conversion and that shows as 27.90psi even if I factor out atmosphere that still reads 14psi at idle, how is that possible?? (never thought to see what it shows with KOEO, I'll check tomorrow). I believe the highest boost I saw was 75HG that = 36.84psi, could a faulty MAP (high boost reading) give me a sluggish off the line for the first couple of second start? as it responds much faster with 1/4 throttle application,??

Since sending the above post I did the KOEO and the MAP shows 56.8 as well, IF my scanner is giving proper readings/ sometimes different scanners extrapulate different data than the ECM sees. based on what I see it would appear that would indicate a faulty MAP,

key on and off 3 times, ending with on, the odo window will display codes if there are any. it will be a 'p' followed by 4 numbers. example p0148(3rd gen lift pump code)
if there are no codes, the 3rd gens will say done

When you do the key on/off thing, if there are no codes, it will flash *P DONE*
