How do I recognize a 6 speed on vin

I look at many trucks for sale and I want a 2nd gen with NV5600 6 speed manual.

How do you find out from vin ? I called a dealer few times, they ask last 9 digits, but I cannot call them for every truck I see.

Here's a vin decoder that might help: (but I don't see a specific code for transmissions). You might have to resort to calling in the last 6 digits for specific options.

8th Engine 1998+ 3 3.0 Liter V6 MPI
6 5.9 Liter I6 24 Valve Diesel
7 5.9 Liter I6 24 Valve HO Diesel (2001)

Eight digit. 6 is a SO with auto or 5 speed and 7 is HO with 6 speed. Should apply to 2001's and 2002's. SNOKING

If the 8th number is a seven, Then it has a six speed. I do beleive that at some point you could order a six speed with OUT the HO engine, on those ones, dont know. (See link by bulabula)

The earlier 6 speed SO had smaller input shafts. Get at least a 2001.5 to get the rear disc brakes. Best of breed, still had front CAD. SNOKING

Well...it doesn't work.

This truck is a 4-02 model and has a C as 8th digit, and it's a standard transmission (I don't know if 5 or 6 speed)

Also all dealers requires last 9 digits of vin to find out.....

My '02 6 speed has a "c" in the 8th position. Hope that helps.
