How difficult is replacing u-joints on the front driveshaft ?
Pulled my front driveshaft and realize I’m going to rebuild it or get it rebuilt . I’ve done single driveshaft u-joints on old Chevy cars etc. Reading about our trucks double cardigan seems to be a challenge for some. Is it really that difficult and should be taken to a drive line shop? Or is this doable with a second set of hands helping?

Not that difficult. The hard part is keeping everything lined up you while you put it together. A bench vice worked wonders.

Had a few mins before work today , so I called our only driveline shop in town . He said $585 plus tax ( Canadian) for an exchange. He said said the race for the centering ball has a max 1000th and if it’s worn any bit more than that is a time bomb ready to go. Now I’m questioning doing it myself . But that’s a lot of moola.

I don't buy what your drive line shop told you. If there is no physical damage that you can see, it will be fine. Do you have a lift kit? That changes the dynamics some and can be compensated for.
