How to attach fuel pressure gauge
How to attach fuel pressure gauge
Howdy!

I was reading about fuel pressure gauges at Geno's Garage and they state, "For '00 and up mounting, the customer has to be creative". What do they mean? Is there something that makes attaching a fuel pressure gauge to a newer truck difficult?

Thanks,
Tad

No, I connected my hose on the back of the injector pump and mounted sender up and to the side of radator mts on drivers side and ran wire back thru cab where hole for clutch was, and mounted my gauge just below ashtray.
There's a schrader valve on the injection pump that you will need to remove and replaced with a tapped banjo bolt for the hose to screw onto.

Re:How to attach fuel pressure gauge
The "creativity" is purely deciding how/where to physically connect the pressure line and mount the sending unit for the guages - here's mine:
The hose I used is a common AC servicing hose, it simply screws directly to the Shrader valve with no mods whatsoever...

gary this is great info. how long is your AC hose between the VP44 and the sender? you getting any FP pulses or is your AC line long enough to damp those out? what fittings are on the sender end of your hose?

Re:How to attach fuel pressure gauge
My hose is perhaps 18-24 inches long - no pulses of any kind - I use a Westach 0-30 psi guage. The hoses usually come with AC servicing kits - cheap ones are plastic - spend a few $$$ mor, and get one with metal ends - probably a Napa store item, rather than Kragen or Grand Auto...

I used the same idea with the AC charging hose. The Schrader valve connects to it fine. I just cut the strange fitting that was on the AC hose off and added a hose barb with 1/8" NPT male fitting. I used a clamp, of course. It screws right into the isolator. Has been working great for about 2 weeks now.
Re:How to attach fuel pressure gauge
thanks guys. this is a great solution. As an aside, I visited with my dealer service manager yesterday about FP gauges, lift pumps, and the spec. Anyway, I think I've got a keeper because they encouraged me to tap right into the VP44 schrader and said thats where they test. anything below 8 lbs WOT the lift pump is a gonner.

Mine drops to 5-6 at WOT. That is with the EZ installed. I haven't checked it without the Edge EZ. I wonder if there is a new lift pump in my future.
Re:How to attach fuel pressure gauge
In reading the various posts on the subject, it appears that some subjectivity has been observed -- that is, differences between dealers. I've heard figures down to 5 psi and frankly I haven't seen a spec or read a TSB -- I'm just repeating what my dealer said.

But yes, in order to get help from the dealer you'll have to show less than 8 psi at WOT bone stock. So if you have injectors, then you're on your own. with just an EZ, disconnect and test!

Also significant is that my dealer measures right on the VP44. That means the pressure drop from filter-to-VP44 (there is some) is factored in for you. thats good news. He might troubleshoot, change fuel filters, and all of that first, but, finding no pinched fuel lines or whatever, out comes the lift pump at < 8 psi.
