High spool whine?
Yesterday on my way home from hunting I noticed a high pitch whine when the turbo starts to really push some air. In the early stage of spool I get the standard whistle. Any ideas? Also when I roll up to a stop it idles @950 then when I stop it drops off to 900.

If you are really honkin' on it it will whine and sometimes you will hear the exhaust resonate at a high frequency...a boost leak will be a wooshing sound. The RPM drop is common. The brake booster is run off a pump in the timing gears. To maximize braking power, the engine idles "high" and then drops when you come to a stop. Mine goes between about 900-850 or so. I think what you are hearing is normal.
With the boost whine...if you are losing power something is leaking...if you are flooring it, it is probably normal. Check your air filter maybe it is leaking.
Someone will chime in if I am wrong about the idle thing...I read that here somewhere.

Hillcountry is right on...
Mine idles the same way when rolling up to a stop then drops the extra little bit...
As for whine noise... Check you intercooler boots of holes. Do you have a boost gauge at all??? It might help find you problem...
You might also inspect your turbo for damage too...

I loose no power ,I just had the truck out and it sounds like it is coming from the drivers side. Is it at all possible it could be the LP on its way out and the ECM is compensating for it causing the change in idle?
