hesitant acceleration???

I have a 2001 CTD Auto 114K

When I drive around normally I don't really notice any problem but it i romp on it WOT it will pull good till about 45 or 50 and then start to sputter and hesitate and stop accelerating for a bit. Then the tranny will shift and it will start accelerating again slowly. It takes a while to get up to highway speed. After researching a bit on here Im pretty paranoind that my lift pump and/or VP44 are going out. Are these symptoms indicitive of that failure?

I plan on ordering the FASSII shortly to get rid of the factory lift pump anyway...even if the pump isnt bad as a preemptive measure...

any help and ideas would be appreciated before I take her to the shop and pay the big bucks.

Allrighty now. First change your fuel filter, 2nd put some fuel additive in. 3rd check fuel pressure and 4th look for active codes. the symptoms you describe sound fuel related.

Gauges, w/out them you are simply guessing as to performance issues.

lift pump was DOA

changed the filter and LP wasn't running when I bumped the starter. So I picked one up at cummins, installed it and it fired right up. Runs like a monster now, 100% better. Pulls great through all the gears, no more hesitation. Still want to goto FASSII sooner or later.

I just hope it didn't hurt the VP44 too much. Gonna have to get some gauges when the taxes come back.
