Seems my vaccum pump is leaking engine oil. Must of just happened recently as it has sprayed oil all over my front axle, track bar, oil pan, etc.

Truck only has 34k. What a bunch of crap.

Anyways, will the dealer fix under the engine warranty?

If not, should I attempt to do this myself or not.

From what I've read, Dodge does not offer seals. Only the $950 pump.

I read the seal is a 28mm ID x 38mm OD x 7mm thick seal. Has to be made out of Viton.

Should I order up a seal today, or should I try to take it to Dodge, or what?

Anyone have the procedure for an 01.5?

O ya, is a Cummins part # 4089742 the correct seal kit?

Seal package is in stock at the dealer I work at. Vac pump isn't covered by the engine warranty. If you have a chrysler service contract it is covered, or at least I've done quite a few of them under contract.

TSB # is 09-009-04. For some reason I can't open the document to get the part #.

 

Can you remove the vaccum pump from the Powersteering pump while its still in the vehicle, or do you have to drain the powersteering resevoir and bleed it, etc?

Some people said you can't on an 01?

But older ones you can?

One guy says you cannot remove the Vaccum pump from the Power steering pump without pulling it from the truck, on an 01.

Any truth to this.

I was also told to remove the radiator and fan to make it easier and allow cleaning.

What is actually the best and easiest way to do it.

 

I just did mine 2001 and it took me 2 hrs and some ^%$@&* to do it . you can get the two apart and lift the vac pump out .take the air horn off and it will be much easyer . you will need to turn the vac pump gear to line up the coupler. the kit has instructions to take PS pump out at the same time ...YOU DONT NEED TO i just used a screw driver to gently pry them apart after i unbolted it

I took 3 of the bolts_nuts off the pump first then the top inside nut after the 2 vac pump bolts on the engine where out

 

01 is tight, but you can remove the vac without dis assembling the ps pump. 15mm chrome swivel socket helps out a bunch. The impact sockets are too bulky to get the ones toward the block. Kit comes with instructions so you'll be ok there. When installing the power steer you may run into some issues getting the drive ring indexed into the drive. I often have someone "roll" the engine over while pushing pwr str pump(turning the engine with a breaker bar at the alternator, belt will catch and turn the engine) and the ring will fall into place and the pump will fit tight against the back of the vac pump. You'll see what I mean when you get to that point.

 

I just pushed the vp back on two the PS pump ,then bolted the 2 of them back on to the motor. i did not remove the small bracket from the block to the ps pump didnt need to that way i just turned the vp gear to get the drive key to align.

 

I seperated the P.S pump on mine. It was a major pain but a doable job, use soime good degreaser and pressure washe before hand, if it has been leaking long it is going to be a slimy dirty job. I got the repair kit from the local Dodge dealer, they had it in stock.

 

Went and got seal kit from Dodge

$49 with a discount

Looks like 2 O rings, 1 seal and 1 gasket.

Should be interesting.

Going to attempt to do it Wednesday.

 

Got her fixed today

Took me about 3.5 hours. But really took my time and was careful.

What a job. There was some swearing going on

Drove it and no leak what so ever.

Didn't drain or remove powersteering pump. Had plenty of room to get it on and off the vaccum pump.

Also did my D25 coils and front shocks. Needed a spring compressor for one side. Not too bad overall

Also did front rotors and pads.

She is ready to go.

Going to get my 35" Pro Comp MTs installed and an alignment tomarrow. Will have pics later.

 

Next time get the seal kit from cummins its only 7.42

...and what do you get for 7.42? Sounds like maybe only the seal and no o-ring, or pump to timing cover gasket. I'm not saying the dealer package is a deal, but at least it has everything you need.
