Help with high speed "miss"
Help with high speed "miss"
It's about 25 degrees out today and while on the highway doing about 65-70 mph my 2001 truck started to "miss". The rpms ran up about 200-250 and down real quick - sort of like a high speed miss. Any time I tried to accelerate it would get worse, like it was starving for fuel. At lower speeds ad pulling away from stop lights its normal, no miss. Am I looking at a failing fuel pump? I have no gauges in the truck to check for pressure and it's too cold to work outdoors in the driveway, so I am going to have to trust my mechanic-I'd just like some opinions before I go. Anyone suggest a good diesel mechanic on Long Island in New York.
Well-had to take it in to the diesell shop and it turns out that the heater in the fuel filter canister burnt out and the the thickend fuel cause the lift pump diaphram to rupture. Mechanic check lift pump pressure and then went backwards to discover the heat was not working. So if you live in a cold area and your lift pump goes in the dead of winter check out the heater or you'll end up replacing the pump shortly a second time.
